Confused about job application question

I’m running through a practice situational judgment test. There’s a question:
I do not get sidetracked by viability when considering a change.

I need to answer how much I agree or disagree with this statement.

aibu to think it’s worded in a confusing manner or am I just overthinking? Essentially I want to say, I am open to changes and will consider the feasibility. So do I out agree or disagree?

I agree it’s confusing but I would think the same as you - want to be able to express why I would want to consider all options however ultimately realise not options are possible at this given time with a set budget?

steff13 · 13/12/2022 03:00

I guess I disagree with the statement, simply because I would definitely consider whether something was viable before I committed to the change.

CheshireSplat · 13/12/2022 03:01

The word sidetracked is an odd one. I'd rephrase it to understand it so I'd reword it as "I do consider viability when considering a change". I agree with that statement. The original statement is negative, so I would disagree with it.

SchrodingersKettle · 13/12/2022 03:03

I would answer "mostly disgaree". It's a dumb question- feasibility assessment is part of any project and that isn't getting side-tracked. Equally if you are in leadership sometimes you have to pusb forward a creative vision and "make it happen" and not get bogged down in the minutiae of the "how".

GiltEdges · 13/12/2022 03:04

Well “sidetracked” has negative connotations. So the question is loaded in favour of wanting people to agree with the statement. But realistically, most people will disagree, because it’s hard not to consider viability as part of the overall change.

GLADragss · 13/12/2022 03:12

Ah that’s where my confusion has come from - the negative connotations of the wording. Bloody psychometrics.

The are measuring my ability to make sound decisions and as you say, part of that includes considering the viability.

So I’ll put disagree

will let you know if I passed or not shortly 😀

I think this is asking about whether you can apply a 'Wizzard of Oz' approach.

It's something you do in 'human computer interaction' you design a system but you don't worry about whether is is something you can actually achieve with tech as it is.

The phrase is from the story, of Oz, you don't worry about what is 'behind the curtain'

So many moons ago at uni we had a project to design a train ticketing service. My group had a hologram walking around on the platform selling tickets.

This was pre smart phones so we had people wearing a bracelet which showed the ticket and could be 'topped up' from home.

I feel I may have confused you.

It's about seeing the solution and either not worrying until later, or leaving others to worry about how things can be achieved.

GLADragss · 13/12/2022 03:40

@sashh interesting. I selected the middle disagree option and the feedback of the test was that I scored in the top range so I think I answered it well.

I put mid-disagree vs strongly disagree based on some of the reasons you’ve mentioned - sometimes an unpopular decision must be made and everyone will need to adapt

Fingers crossed you get the job.

Sometimes the solution isn't always achievable
