To ask how anyone makes money on Vinted?

I've just started listing baby clothes on Vinted and I'm struggling to see how anyone makes any money? Items seem to be sold at roughly £1-2 each and sales seem to be slow.

Any tips? Shall I go back to eBay WH in I haven't used for years. I have so much baby stuff to shift and could really do with the extra cash ( have also sent tonnes to charity shops too!).

Finding this thread very interesting. I like that sellers do not pay fees on Vinted but because I live rurally I am wondering if it is practical for me. We have a post office in the village but nearest town/city is 12 miles away. I have tried looking at shipping information on the site but I find it very confusing. Does seller or buyer choose? Any help would be useful. Thanks.

The buyer does. You can just offer the options that are practical to you. The first time my buyer chose Evri and I didn't realise my nearest drop-off had closed so had to drop it 5 miles away in the town where I work.

Juicylychee · 13/12/2022 11:53

You can go into your settings and remove any posting options you don’t want to offer.

I have made over £600 in 18 months selling my clothes, DD's clothes, unwanted jewellery, toiletries, makeup, books etc. It went towards a holiday and I used some of it to buy DD's Christmas presents on vinted.

I sell everything cheap so that it goes. Often people will buy 4 or 5 things at £1 each. I research prices, so sell things for more if they will go for more. Nobody is going to buy it if they can get it brand new and cheaper on Amazon.

Seasonal comes into it as well, people don't buy swimsuits in December, or winter coats in June.

Bundles of things sell well or several things for 1 price.

As a buyer it can be expensive to buy just one thing, a £4 top cost me £8 by the time delivery and fees were added.

I keep all of my packaging from my own deliveries from Amazon etc and recycle it. I also bought some mailing bags from Amazon.

I only offer the Evri as a delivery option as none of the others suit me.

And another tip I’ve just discovered. If you offer Royal Mail, rather than dropping it off at the post office it’s cheaper to buy postage online. Then at the moment they are also offering to collect it for free. Although having said that, obviously everything Royal Mail related is a nightmare at the moment

Would also love info on how things like lego and playmobil sets get priced and packaged! how much does the postage cost on average?

Sartre · 13/12/2022 12:28

Suppose it depends what you’re selling. I made £400 last month selling wooden toys my DC no longer play with and some clothes they’d outgrown.

MiniStitch · 13/12/2022 12:38

How does postage work if you don’t have access to a printer to print labels?

When I did it the corner shop printed the label.

It depends on what it is - the market for second hand baby clothes os saturated - there's so many bundles available for a small cost. I sell my kids outgrown things like frugi, JoJo, Boden, marks and Spencer and character clothes, but rarely bother with things like F&F, George, Morrisons etc because it's more like £1 per item. I might upload some of these as bundles if I was having a listing flurry of all kinds of things.
I've got £35 pending at present as I have recently listed things like 2.5 tog baby sleeping bags as well as outgrown clothes.

pompomsandtinsel · 13/12/2022 12:48

Ignore vinted's advisory price they show you when you are listing things.

Also sell and then buy on Vinted. You sell cheaply but you buy cheaply so you have to exist in the same bubble.

wimbler · 13/12/2022 13:19

I only sell baby/kids stuff or maternity clothes. I've found I am quite ambitious with my pricing. most of the time I get an offer which I'm happy with and if it doesn't sell, I'll just reduce the price until it does. Also seasonal posting is crucial, I've saved up a lot of summer stuff which will sell really well in may/june or as soon as the weather turns. I've just sold some baby pram suits and high tog sleeping bags for a really good price as it's so bloody cold and they're expensive new. "premium" brands like JoJo Maman sell really well as do Maternity clothes

Lcb123 · 13/12/2022 13:21

On eBay you can buy a multi pack of plastic postage bags for a few pounds - that’s what I use to post out clothes

Sorry to post hijack, but do you have any top tips for Playmobil? I have at 12 ikea Kallax boxes full of the stuff but it's so ouch I don't know where to start.

I do!

Firsr of all sort it all out so you have your board as doors and windows and people all separate.

Then ask DC what sets they remember having - mine knew every set. I was really surprised. Build each set and check it is complete on playmodb.org/ - photograph it really well from all angles and then upload. It sells on vinted really fast. I was shocked.

It took as a week or so of solid work each evening. Good luck!

You don’t need a printer for inpost

Decafflatteplease · 13/12/2022 16:43

Ive only recently started to sell on vinted and made £70 in a week! I leave the money there to buy more things 😉

I sell at £2-3 an item and it soon adds up. Good quality children's clothes sell well.

I bought a load of post bags from Amazon in bulk. And parcel tape. So it was an initial outlay a bit but soon made it back.

It's so easy, I was nervous but it walks you through it!

I only offer Evri as can walk to the dropoff shop easily. Turned off all the other postage options as none were walkable so it would be more effort

Juicylychee · 13/12/2022 19:34

@Decafflatteplease i do too, I’ve really changed my mindset about children’s clothes.

Sleepyteach · 13/12/2022 19:52

Between vinted, Facebook market place and a couple of bits on eBay, I’ve made £350 in the last few weeks, mostly vinted. A lot of the stuff I’ve sold is good brands like Jojo, Boden and Frugi, and I’ve priced to sell quickly, but more than £1-2 plus a few toys for between £5-10. It does take time, but it’s paid for DDs Christmas and some holiday spends, so totally worth the time to me! The bundles I’ve put on haven’t sold but I’ve had quite a few people build their own bundles and spend £25-40 on them which is great because it means less trips to drop parcels off!!

Sleepyteach · 13/12/2022 19:55

I know I said my bundles didn’t sell, but sock and PJ bundles have sold really well just not clothing ones!

BrownStripePJ · 13/12/2022 22:39

What brands are they? Some brands do a buy back service for 2nd hand like joules.com
and polarnopyret.co.uk
