To be surprised about this Santa gift?

We went to a Santa experience at the weekend. We splurged on £76 tickets for the family total (4 of us). It did include some other things like soft play, a train ride, and a couple of rides, as well as a snack and drink (still overpriced but not crazily so - we were there for almost 2 hours altogether).

However, my question is about the gift Santa gave my 2 year old. When he unwrapped it, it clearly said on the box it was unsuitable for 0-3 year olds. It had a 0-3 circle with a line through it, and said due to small parts, risk of strangulation and choking, it should not be given to a child under 36 months. My child is 2, and they asked for ages when booking (his age was printed on the ticket they gave us). Am I unreasonable to be concerned about this, and raise it, or should I just ignore and let it go? Many thanks.

Sorry, I should have made clear- ONE of my children is 2. He is the one who received this gift. My older child is 4, and he received an age-appropriate gift for a 4 year old (they were not mixed up as were labelled with both name and age(.

Yes I'd mention it to them.

I wouldn't get too worked up about it. I found when buying for my own kids that 2 is very difficult to buy for. Nearly everything says 3+ or is designed for babies.

Mostly at these things it's complete tat. I wait until they've gone to bed and then it somehow gets lost. Don't think they've ever noticed.

What is the gift? Most things that say not suitable for 0-3 is a loss of rubbish! Clearly just trying to protect themselves.

buckeejit · 12/12/2022 22:22

Everything is not for 0-3. Anything for under 3s would probably be out of budget.

HairyMcHairyFace · 12/12/2022 22:28

It would depend what it was. My youngest was given a lovely wooden farm set for his first birthday that was suitable for 3+. I just took out the ducks and chickens when we opened the box because he'd give those a good go but he'd have to try really hard to swallow a cow or sheep.
You could raise it with the place that did the Santa experience but as a PP said all toys in the 0-3 bracket seemed to be aimed at the lower end of that scale and would quickly lose the interest of a 2 year old.

I don't think it's a big deal seems there were good intentions. those recommended ages aren't definitive. And even if it were, the child will be 3 in a year anyway - so would store until it feels appropriate for them to use.

My 1yr old got socks sized for a 6m old
I think the "elves" just liked the wrong gift from the selection of baskets.

I wouldn't get worked up about it tbh.

What was the gift?

TyneTeas · 12/12/2022 23:26

The testing for a toy to be rated suitable for under three is apparently a lot more expensive, so it isn't always done which means there are toys which aren't unsuitable for under three but not on packaging as haven't gone through the testing (according to local independent toy shop a few years ago)

Okay many thanks. It was a 'build your own clock'. I'll save it for my son for another year or two I guess.
