I used to love "I Survived" and series like that which included animal attacks and getting lost in a desert etc but I can't seem to find anything similar!

I have Netflix, Prime and Disney + so hoping somebody can recommend me something!

oh I like documentaries and need recommendations too, what exactly do you mean by 'gritty'?

I expect not David Attenborough or Brian Cox

Oysterbabe · 27/04/2023 21:04

Have you watched I Shouldn't Have Survived on Prime? It's very good.

elm26 · 27/04/2023 22:47

I forgot about this thread!

@Couscousmoose I LOVE David Attenborough but I meant things like Banged Up Abroad, Shark Attack Files etc 😊

P Company - 4 on demand or More 4.

The Bridge. It's about suicide from the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. Full doc is on YouTube.

The Wet House. About a hostel in London that takes alcoholics in but let's them drink. Bleak viewing.

There was one a few years ago on BBC or maybe C4 about some ex military guy who did a month on the streets being homeless (might have been 50 days). Did London, Manchester and Glasgow.

Terry Pratchett docs on Alzheimer's and the one on Dignitas in Switzerland. I often think about that.

I’m a ‘digging for Britain’ fan

Acheybreakyhead · 27/04/2023 23:44

I was going to suggest 'The Bridge' then I saw this is a zombie thread but it's always good to get recommendations

The other one I'd recommend is about an author who thought he could dip into trying heroin for the purposes of writing a book and it absolutely ruined his life. There is a follow up to it too. I can't remember the name of either

'dreams of a life' is also good, a woman who was seemingly popular died alone in her flat and undiscovered for years.

Extreme Rescues is brilliant, I think it's on Disney+, all actual footage of rescues (crazily enough) taken by the rescuers/rescuees. I loved it, wish there was a second series of it!

moggerhanger · 27/04/2023 23:47

The BBC Storyville one about Jonestown was grimly fascinating.

Snugglemonkey · 28/04/2023 00:09

I am watching "I am a Killer". Very interesting.

Don't get high on your own supply is the one about the journalist who became an addict

Touching the Void is quite old but unbelievably gripping. Also One Day in September by the same director.
