I want to live in a nice home but have no taste

Currently renting as we’re living abroad but it’s unfurnished so we have more flexibility and I felt the same in our UK place.

I’d love to live somewhere homely and stylish but I just can’t seem to grasp it or imagine things all put together and then they don’t look quite right. All others homes I visit look great and very much have a feel or theme (not matching but just a style - ie modern or country).

Any tips or advice hugely welcome please!

I was to develop your taste , and get more specific about what you like that makes a home feel “great , homely” is by looking more. Use Pinterest and make a board and just save any rooms that you like quickly without thinking too much . Do this over a week or so. Then go through the board and edit - get rid of the ones I you don’t really like after a second look.
Try to end up with about 8-12images and then write down what these rooms have - eg is it warm natural wood ? Is it range of textures? Is it a. range off lighting ?

once you identify what it is it’s easier to start working towards creating that. Use magazines if you prefer for images .

Another idea is make contact with someone local who is starting out as an interior decorator looking for homes to use as a project

Sorry for typos - should begin with … “ A way….”

I second Pinterest. It really helped me choose my kitchen, paint colours, flooring, sofa etc. I started out with an era (Victorian/Edwardian) then looked at the words people used to describe the ones I like (e.g. dark, gothic, modern Victorian Vs country, farmhouse) and searched for those.

I struggle more with the finishing touches. My mum has a good eye for design and will sometimes send me photos of things she's seen online, in a shop or on Facebook marketplace that she thinks I'd like. I might not be able to find things, but when presented with something I know if it fits with the "vision" I have (that I can't actually visualise).

Thank you so much! Pinterest is a very good idea

I watched a Grand Designs recently where they mediated to visualise the look and interestingly, the feel of each room in the house, which I thought was a bit woo, but the end result was lovely so I cheerfully ate my eye-rolling remarks!

@Notsohomely furniture placement can be quite integral to how ‘put together’ a home is. If you feel up for it, post the room dims/images over in property/diy along with a couple of images of rooms you feel have the look and feel of what you’d like to have and you’ll definitely get help there.
