To suspect that my 2 year old was left in the same nappy all day at nursery.

My daughter is 2 and goes to nursery a few days a week. I dropped her off for her session and when I collected her 5hrs later her Nursery teacher hurriedly mentioned that she needed to change her quickly before she left. I siad not to worry about it and that I'd pop her in the bath as soon as she got home because she was covered in glitter. Got her undressed for her bath and im almost certain she still had the same nappy on that I'd put on her as I was getting her ready for nursery. It was big and puffy and quite yellow and didnt smell great at all. I put that on her about an hour before I dropped her off so it means she'd been sat in the urine for 6 hours. I did put 2 spares in her nursery bag but they were a different brand and they hadn't been used. The reason I believe that it's the same nappy is because I was out just before and I pulled the nappy out of my backpack. It was the last one I had. My concealer has leaked and a bit got on the nappy at the back. It's still on the one I took off her before her bath. I called the nursery and said I don't believe it's been changed and they honestly didn't seem to be too concerned. But it was in her daily log that it was changed halfway through her session. They've always been brilliant with her. Shes never had a problem there before. I'll speak to them about it when she is in next time. But I just think that this is unacceptable to leave a 2 year old or any baby in a nappy for 5+ hours.

To not change the nappy definitely is negligent. There really is no excuse when they're getting paid to do a job. It would anger me to.

CarefreeMe · 12/12/2022 19:53

I would make a slight mark and take a photo of it.

If this happens again then you know for a fact they are lying.

I would not be happy with my child having a full nappy all day.

That is a great suggestion. What about if I got fooled I'd be worried about that. X

If you’ve never noticed this before I wouldn’t worry too much it may just be a one off.

Crunchymum · 12/12/2022 21:55

Did you tell them she was in a wet nappy?

And yes if at all possible I wouldn't send mine into nursery in a wet nappy.

(I have a delayed almost 5yo in reception still in nappies so appreciate its not always possible to change them but you definitely mention they need to be changed upon drop off!)

2? Toilet training?

OP would know if they were trying to toilet train her child.

panko · 12/12/2022 21:59

I send mine in in pull ups and give them ones with tabs for in the day - they prefer those aparantly.

Kittykat9070 · 12/12/2022 22:05

Anyone saying they’re In a nappy longer overnight is ridiculous!!! They’re not walking around at night carrying a wet nappy on their bottom which gets pretty heavy if not changed!!!

you’re not being unreasonable, they should have changed her when they ‘logged it’ having been changed

Kittykat9070 · 12/12/2022 22:07

@AnuSTart
and don’t be a dick. My daughter was older than 2, and she’s now dry at night at 3. Everyone has there own ways, op is paying for her child to be looked after, they’re not doing her a favour!
most adults don’t need a nappy change, she’s not damaging her child by not potty training at 2

PennyRa · 12/12/2022 22:29

So you sent her to nursery with a pee soaked nappy, and a back covered in makeup!?

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 12/12/2022 22:46

If the log says she was wet and changed then I'd pull them up on it. Use the concealer point so they don't think you are setting traps for them.

But, she may have been checked for a change but not actually wet in which case I'd expect them to leave her in the nappy. Bad form to hand over a wet child though.

Op says:

"A bit" on the back. Yeah. That's the same as "covered in make up". 🙄

What a juxtaposition. Thanks, MN self-promotion algorithm.

(the way the screenshot displays in-thread cuts off the first line of the adjacent post, i.e. "What if she'd pooped? Would they have noticed?")

I would draw a big smiley face on the front, different picture every day - what’s the point in being surreptitious? You want your dd changed daily. Let nursery know you’re doing this. If they’re not lying they’ve got nothing to worry about and if they are they’ll be forced to change dd’s nappy appropriately.

Salome61 · 12/12/2022 23:09

I'm very sorry you've been upset. My MIL from hell babysat for about four hours for our son one sunny afternoon. When I got home I was furious to see what I thought was sugared white bread on the sofa. She'd previously tried to make me give him 'something' in his bottle to help him sleep, as well as other outdated ideas. It wasn't sugared white bread, it was absolutely saturated nappy that had fallen off because it was so wet! I asked her if she'd changed him, and she said she 'couldn't find the nappies'.

Mumsgotaheadache01 · 12/12/2022 23:14

Woah! There really are some nasty little people on here.

parsniiips · 12/12/2022 23:27

It isn't acceptable to leave a nappy on that long during the day.

Nighttime is different. They are sleeping and unaware for starters.

Even if she was dry during the scheduled nappy check, that should prompt them to do a further check and look out for the inevitable wee a bit later on.

I'm assuming those people saying it isn't a big deal would be ok with wearing an incontinence pad soaked with wee for a few hours?

Climbles · 12/12/2022 23:32

If they are asleep all night they won’t be wetting the nappy as much as they won’t be drinking.
If they are waking for a bottle they get changed.
They lied in the log them clearly tried to cover it up too. That’s pretty bad and I’m not sure I could trust them after that.

allboysherebutme · 12/12/2022 23:41

Do they not give you information how many nappy changes, how many sleeps, how much milk drunk ect. ? X

jassy11 · 12/12/2022 23:55

When she’s asleep she’s not playing and walking around, that’s gotta be uncomfortable and a cause for potential rashes, imagine having been on your period and getting a pad/tampon or whatever you use on and having to go about your daily routine wether it be looking after kids or working in the same menstrual product….Not nice.

She was trying to cover her logged entry of a change, which was a lie, I guess. Not very nice.
