To reconsider going on holiday in a few weeks

I'm feeling a bit anxious and concerned about going away in a few weeks. We are off to lapland for 3 nights/ 4 days.

My DS is 6 and has asthma which does not seem to be that controlled atm. Over the weekend he's had to have another course of steroids. He still has 1 week left of school and I'm worried he's going to pick something up just before we go and then be ill whilst in lapland. We aren't in a main area and are quite remote in lapland so wouldn't be able to access medical care so easily. We have inhalers for him. Going to speak with the doctor today about his asthma but I'm now second guessing if it's worth going away incase DS needs so medical care.

Go. Don’t restrict your children because you’re anxious.

How difficult will getting medical help be exactly? Does he do the usual things to help, like covering his mouth with a scarf when he's in cold air?

Wolfiefan · 12/12/2022 08:15

Do the steroids always work. Could they let you have a course to take with you if needed?

Cold air actually helps. Its going from cold to very warm/hot which triggers coughing. I'm not entirely sure how difficult it is to get medical help but it will be more difficult than being at home as we are more remote. We are at a ski resort

Yes they help calm the cough down so it isn't relentless. I could ask the doctor today about it

My friend has just come back from Lapland. Says it's the best holiday she has ever had.

She stayed remotely in a resort with little lodges. Lots of organised activities.

Although it was remote. There was access to medical care if needed.

They are used to snow conditions there and it is not a barrier to good healthcare.

I hope you go and have a lovely magical time.

What's your travel insurance like ?

I can’t decide what to do. We’re supposed to be going to Lapland in 48 hours and have been looking forward to it for ages. My daughter has been really unwell for the last 2 weeks with a chest infection which she has literally just got over. Now my husband, son and myself have temperatures and terrible coughs. Shall we forget the whole thing? I don’t want to risk us going there and one of us feeling more unwell. Can’t believe the timing of this. I very rarely plan anything in advance and then when I do…..😥
