You should not use hibi scrub on your vag?

DF has an op on Tuesday she's having stents in urethra to help with kidney stones. She went for pre-op appointment on Thursday and apparently was "advised" to ensure she showers/shaves before attending and they gave her a bottle of hibi scrub and two wide tooth razors to use. Maybe a little TMI but she said she's going to have the cleanest floof in the land come Tuesday morning. I was horrified and said surely they haven't told you to use that to clean down there and she was quite adamant that this was her understanding although never actually said not to use it on genital area. I know hibi scrub is anti bacterial wash but surely if she uses that 1. It's bound to sting to buggery. 2. Aren't our floofs meant to be self cleaning and have our own (hopefully in most cases) "good" bacteria and that would kill off your own flora and possibly cause all other kinds of issues?
She thinks I'm being silly to be shocked, I haven't had thrush for about 30 years and even then looking back it was more than likely down to over cleaning/using wrong products etc. But I still remember the pain.

They obviously mean to clean where the hair grows (which would reduce a risk of MRSA) not to clean inside herself (which is self-cleaning). For clarity, she's not supposed to shave inside herself either...

Do you actually believe that your friend intends to clean inside her vagina?

OurChristmasMiracle · 11/12/2022 23:41

It’s for use where you would normally use shower gel and is perfectly fine. You shouldn’t use it internally.

Not like douche with it no, but still thinking it would be very drying/irritating washing outer.

You are supposed to use it all over the OUTSIDE of your body. I had surgery last year and had to stay in hospital for 5 days and we were told to use it as shampoo and body wash all over.

www.molnlycke.co.uk/products-solutions/hibiscrub/

Instructions at link above make clear it should be used on 'Groin area'

RambamThankyouMam · 11/12/2022 23:45

It's vulva/vagina. Not floof, FFS.

Qazwsxefv · 11/12/2022 23:47

What you normally do to clean and what you are advised to do before an operation are different things tho

vaginas (inside) are self cleaning

vulvas (outside between the lips) are not but normally just water is recommended to prevent irritation etc

BUT your DF is having surgery on her urethra- it’s not exactly normal procedure for cleaning - her urethral opening and so her vulva will be the surgical site - its not unreasonable to use antibacterial as instructed before her operation.

fifteenohfour · 11/12/2022 23:53

They mean to clean the vulva and outside labia after she shaves. Don't need to do the inside, or even the Inner minora labia they will clean that aseptically at the time of procedure. The hibiscrub is to make sure that the freshly shaved area is sanitised to stop infected follicles and a rash. However we never advise a full shave only a trim short, never advise to shave down to the follicles...it just causes itching and problems.

But you are aware that the vulva don't 'self-clean'? Or do you ming?

Thanks 😊
It's very much tongue in cheek to be fair. Think she was just trying to make light of the situation. I know there is so much going on in everyone's lives day in day out and some have it much worse than others but she's had a terrible time with these kidney stones she's not really looking forward to it. You know when someone's joking but you still think they just might be being honest...

Cinderellla · 12/12/2022 00:17

I wouldn’t use it on the vulva no, probably everywhere else would be ok on your body and groin but not the actual vulva skin. I think this would cause thrush by destroying the ‘good’ bacteria

I have HS as well, and I use hibiscrub anywhere I tend to get flares, including on my groin area. I’ve never had any issues with dryness, thrush or irritation from using it as I would any normal shower gel (which I can’t use as it makes my flares more frequent/worse/longer lasting). I’m sure she will be fine.

I've seen foof but not floof. I've only seen floof on comments on tiktok to describe long haired or fluffy kittens Grin

Yeah I describe a long haired dog as a floof, foof is a fanjo.😂
