To want my kids driven to school this week?

Neighbour has been helping out with school runs but it's a 20 minute walk to school and very cold in London this week. Aibu to drop them to the before school club in the car so they dont have to walk?
They are primary aged.

Do what you like, but people driving 20 minute distances all the time in the city is precisely why air quality is so fucked.

Libelula1979 · 11/12/2022 20:23

Do what you want.
I'll be walking mine to school as usual, as I don't want my children to miss a healthy, brisk walk.

Up to you innit

Are there actually primary schools where you can just suddenly decide to use the breakfast club on a Sunday night? Any school I know of is booked up ages in advance. You should offer to take the neighbour’s kids in your car, if she’s been taking yours. But won’t driving be awful anyway? Take an age to defrost the car, roads will be slow moving and potentially dangerous and parking will be a nightmare.

From someone who can't drive, 20 mins is fine as long as everyone is wrapped up properly, you will spend half of that defrosting the car anyway.

Personally I love walking in chilly, frosty weather when there's a bite in the air. I much prefer it to rain. And presumably if you're fairly central, there's a good chance the pavements will have been gritted.

Is it that cold? -6 here tonight so a bit chilly
walk or drive not sure what your point is?

Yeah ours is never full, I could ring at 2pm to book them in for 3.15pm. We live in the sticks though.

Depends what question exactly you're asking. If the AIBU is we're taking turns walking DC to school and this week I want to drive my DC to school rather then doing your turns walking, YABU. If they just all walk to school with neighbour and it doesn't effect neighbours plans then YANBU at least on the driving front.

VaccineSticker · 11/12/2022 21:08

Icey pavements is a no from me. They don’t grit anything where we live and today everything had a thick white layer of frost on it all day long. My children. Will be walking no where in these conditions.

pizzaHeart · 11/12/2022 21:27

I’m with @LunaAndHerMoonDragons

getavest · 11/12/2022 21:37

On behalf of everyone in the north east who walked to school in the snow / on ice wearing a short skirt, short socks and a cheap jacket, and spent hours outside clubs waiting for a taxi wearing even less, your kiddies are not going to freeze.

Southerners 😂

pigsDOfly · 11/12/2022 21:54

OP what do you think children did before everyone drove everywhere?

As long as there are no health issues and they're dressed appropriately for the weather they'll be fine on a brisk walk to school in the cold.

slowquickstep · 11/12/2022 21:58

OP it is not -20 with 6ft snow drifts.
