Airbnb expectations

SparklyThrow · 09/12/2022 23:20

I have only used Airbnb a couple of times and have had a substantial breakfast provided. Current stay and there is bread and margarine, tea, coffee and milk.

AIBU to expect a proper breakfast?

Never had breakfast included with an Airbnb

SavoirFlair · 09/12/2022 23:21

How on earth can we advise when each listing and host is different ?

it’s like saying all hotels should have full English, everywhere, globally, just because you stayed in a few Premier Inns before .

YABU.

Talipesmum · 09/12/2022 23:21

Entirely depends on what’s been advertised. I’ve only ever stayed in whole house type places though, and expected no provision at all, so unsure what’s normal.

valbot · 09/12/2022 23:22

ditto - never had or expected breakfast. Depends what they advertised - did they say breakfast included? If not I think they’ve been generous. If yes, I’d be annoyed.

malmi · 09/12/2022 23:29

YABU to book accommodation without looking at what's included

SparklyThrow · 09/12/2022 23:31

Ok, I thought Airbnb stood for air bed and breakfast.

karmaisacat · 09/12/2022 23:48

I’ve never had breakfast included either. Tea and coffee is about the extent of what I’d expect but I wouldn’t be bothered if I didn’t get them either.

curiousbanana · 09/12/2022 23:56

I've stayed in dozens and never had breakfast provided.

There's usually milk, tea and coffee though.

ChangingStates · 09/12/2022 23:57

Airbnb is self catering - or at least has been every time i’ve used one. Sometimes get left a bottle of wine or some nibbles of some sort. Never been given breakfast.
I’ve only ever hired out whole places though- not sure if it’s different if you hire a room in a house occupied by the owner

No that’s just the name of the company. What did it state in the inventory? At any hotel, BnB, etc, it will state what is included?

It’s a bit like saying you thought your lodgings would be in the ‘air’, if you’re being that literal with the company name.

Wineat5isfine · 10/12/2022 00:27

Gosh, I’ve stayed in 20+ airbnbs and have always been provided with some form of breakfast.

I also thought the whole point was to have this meal provided. Perhaps Ive always chosen wisely!

Ihatethenewlook · 10/12/2022 00:28

I wouldn’t expect any breakfast with any air b’n’b. At most I’d expect a pint of milk and a loaf of bread along with tea and coffee. They’re not actual bed and breakfasts, they’re self catering.

KrisAkabusi · 10/12/2022 00:29

I've stayed in about 50 Airbnb over the years, from one night to a month at a time. I've never had breakfast provided.

I’ve just googled the history out of interest. They were originally called ‘air’ bnbs because it started off as the founders charging people to stay on literal blow up mattresses in their rooms/apartments. Given that you can now rent the entire apartments (with actual beds), I think the company has definitely moved forward! The focus is on having somewhere to sleep, not having food provided.

PatriciaHolm · 10/12/2022 00:55

Surely this is just a case of reading the details properly?

We use Airbnb a lot, and the level of provision varies widely, from the pretty much nothing to the lovely local bread/croissants/jam package. The key is that it is always in the detail of the accommodation. So you can't expect something that isn't laid out clearly.

GooglyEyeballs · 10/12/2022 01:30

YABU, first of all, read the advert...

Judgyjudgy · 10/12/2022 01:35

Never had any food provided

sjpkgp1 · 10/12/2022 01:36

Definitely would not expect breakfast in an AIRBNB. Have always thought it to be people letting out their 2nd properties or rooms on a self catering basis. Always lovely when owners provide something, bottle of wine, local produce, bathroom stuff etc. but DEFO not expected. I also sort of thought that you were in their space for a while, and you left it as you found it, and got reciprocal votes on how good a "stayer" you were. I think times have changed with AIRBNB with cleaning fees and so on. I don't use AIRBNB as much now, because you can find the same properties on booking.com (or similar) for the same price or cheaper. I think it is a bit of a shame that the trust has been eroded really, but clearly it has, and that's why we have to read the small print iro what is being provided for the money.

MarmiteCoriander · 10/12/2022 01:38

It also depends whether you stayed in a room- within someones home and they are living there vs renting somewhere exclusively to yourselves. Staying in someones home- the vast majority of the time with Air BNb, I just got my own breakfast- extremely rarely did they offer, although most said I could use their kitchen to cook. Every time I've booked exclusive use- absolutely nothing provided. I was lucky to get salt/pepper at one place!

No- its not a BnB!

IDontWantToBeAPie · 10/12/2022 01:52

It's not a B&B every time I've used it it's just accomidation so yes you're unreasonable

IDontWantToBeAPie · 10/12/2022 01:53

So yeah you've been a bit dumb

Tiredmum100 · 10/12/2022 09:12

Never had breakfast provided in an air bnb either.

knittingaddict · 10/12/2022 09:18

We've used airbnb twice and both times it's been like a holiday home rental and we have the whole property. I think they left a few things like bread and milk and maybe a bottle of wine. Both were lovely.

Airbnb vary massively. Some are like a traditional b and b, some are just a room and some are holiday lets. You get what you pay for and what the description tells you they provide. Don't assume anything.

Shoxfordian · 10/12/2022 09:19

It depends what it said on the advert - and no it doesn’t stand for bed & breakfast 🙄
