It was in style and beauty but only one reply so posting here for traffic.

I am in my 30s….i had acne when i was a teenager and always combination/oily skin with blackheads. I dont have acne anymore for years but i struggle with oily skin and blackheads. Very oily and a lot of blackheads! I am fed up and can’t look in the mirror. I have tried everything, but expensive products, cheap products, microdermabrasion for months few years ago, chemical peels. Nothing makes any changes and at the moment i cannot afford facials at the beauty salons. Some of my friends had same issues but now at our age have really alright skin. Why not me?!

any advice? Maybe something helped any of you?

fyi - my diet, drinking water, exercises are not a cause of the issue. I also dont smoke and dont drink (never had).

Have you tried just a straight 3 months nothing but old school bar soap and water?

No oily thick makeup/foundation

Lots of water

Plenty of fresh air

Don't wash hair daily either and plait it back off your face at night

100% cotton bedding

You may have tried it but salycylic acid was very useful for my daughter. It's the main ingredient in a lot of high priced skin 'systems' but you can also get it through a gp or pharmacy for just a tube of cream cheaply. It helps ckear out blocked pores so I would think needs to be used long term (my daughter still does). Paula's Choice website is informative, and she sells it too, she's a trained dermatologist. (She produced some books too, don't know if she still does)

Paula's choice acid totally cleared up my daughters skin too. Great product

I resorted to medication. Dalacin t from doctor was a game changer.

AnxietyLevelMax · 09/12/2022 23:34

Isnt Dalacin for acne? I dont have problems with acne but thank you. I will look it up some more.
@MilkyYay funny fact but yes i did try! (Most
of the maternity leave and now i work part time and on my days off I have very simple skincare routine and no make up, also very little make up when i go to work and only wash my hair on my work days). Using soap (tried couple only so maybe just didnt find the right one) completely messed my skin, it was worse.
i really envy those women who has no make up and such a nice clear skin

Another bite for nip&fab. Only just started using it a few weeks ago and it’s great

Agreeing with excellent points made above.

You need something with salicylic in. The first "famous" range was the Clinique 3 step routine which used salicylic before it became a buzzword. You don't need to spend. Nowadays you can get own brand (Superdrug) products with the exact same ingredients and, more importantly, percentages of ingredients. (Nip & Fab teen skin range has 2% salicylic and costs half as much as either Clinique or Paula's Choice- same ingredients in same percentages) Effaclar Duo range is excellent.

You need to hydrate. Skin can be oily and dehydrated. A simple (not Simple- it isn't) moisturizer. CeraVe, La Roche Posay etc.

Don't use any form of "scrub" or stripping things. That's what the salicylic is for.

Watch Nadine Baggott. (I don't mind Caroline Hirons but Nadine Baggott is more "pared down". Skin needs 3 things:
A cleanser
An SPF 50
A hydrator.

2 other things will help anti -ageing
A vitamin C
A vitamin A

BelenaConhamHarter · 10/12/2022 08:17

Try the turquoise Paula's Choice serum after using Cera ve cleanser and then Cera ve moisturiser.

This completely turned my skin around - I was a mess until I saw and followed this Nadine Baggott video.

PS Dr. Anjali Mahto is a medical dermatologist specialising in oily skin/acne. NB has some videos with her. Worth watching.

I have awful skin, very combination and I suffer from eczema.

I used any cleansing balm really whats on offer, at the moment its one in a black and white tube from boots, I can’t remember the name. Then a cheap rosehip oil (actual rosehip, not a 1% rosehip mixed oil) followed by vitamin c (revolution in the glass bottle), drunk elephant moisturiser with the green lid and then spf. Night time same cleaner, same oil
and ciclaplast (I think thats how you spell it).

Then twice a week I used a nip and fab exfoliating pads, every other night I use tret. Due to my eczema I have to reduce the tret in winter.

Sparkletastic · 10/12/2022 08:26

SA can be strong so use in moderation. Niacinamide and hyaluronic acid really help as does retinol. Inkey List do great products and you can't go wrong with Cera Ve.

PlayItCool · 10/12/2022 08:57

I stopped using moisturiser on the advice of a derm. I just use gentle non foaming cleansers, serum and spf for daytime. If I add in moisturiser it’s too much and makes my skin oily. Also oil blotting sheets are helpful during the day - better than powder as it removes the oil

so many great advices. Thank you
