YABU - you can't walk in you have to call 111 and get an appointment at the urgent care / minor injuries unit you want to attend

YANBU - you can turn up and wait

Thank you

We don't have urgent care or minor injuries. Our CCG closed them down 5 years ago. We have the GP and A&E, nothing in-between. DH has been phoning for an appointment for 3 weeks, they're all gone by the time he gets through.

I think it varies by health board but if in doubt phone 111 first. I found phoning ahead easier when I've been in the past

Depends on the unit. My local UTC you can walk in but you can also call up and make an appointment. DD1 local is walk in only. DD2 doesn’t have any thing like that locally (all closed as per PP said) and has A and E only nearby.

I think you have to have some common sense tbh. I’ve shown up at minor injuries a lot over the years if I’m honest for breaks, and large active cuts that clearly need stitching or gluing. It’s honestly the most amazing department, usually full of similar ‘walk-in injuries’ like bike accidents etc, and I’ve always been seen quickly. You are always triaged by severity, so regardless if you call ahead, if someone comes in in worse nick they’ll be seen ahead of you.

I did call 111 for suspected concussion when I wasn’t sure if I needed to be seen, and they referred me to a larger a&e for blood tests.
