To be sick of being sick

Not really an AIBU but just a wee moan.

Does anyone else feel like come late autumn/winter they just bounce from one illness to the next? I'm sick of it. Since the beginning of November between DH, the two DC and myself we have had a stomach bug, two sets of tonsillitis, hand foot and mouth, upset tummy, a cold and now I think I've gone and got laryngitis. My throat is red raw, absolutely killing me and I've lost my voice. I'm so fed up of it.

Last year I had 6 weeks of colds and such back to back then two weeks off then another 6 weeks/2 months of chest issues. I just want us all to feel better for the Christmas holidays.

We haven't had any illness at all due to wearing masks so you could try that if you're fed up? Otherwise it's hopefully just a bad phase. Make sure you recover properly after an illness and you'll have more chance of avoiding the next one.

@LaughingLemur Not very helpful. OP has mentioned 2 children, which is likely to be where the illness is coming from. It's also a much longer and difficult process recovering from illness when you've got other people to look after.

@TheWorstWeek I feel you! I think the last time we had a fully healthy household was August. It's just relentless and feels like there's no end in sight. Hope you're feeling better for Christmas.

You wear a mask 100% of the time?

Im sure it makes you feel ‘safer’ @LaughingLemur but this won’t be the reason you’ve not been ill.

I hear you OP, I’m getting more nursery illnesses than my son who is actually at nursery. I’m too tired and run down to avoid it.

LaughingLemur · 08/12/2022 15:03

I also have 2 children at school. Wearing a mask for a short period of time would let your body recover. I've been in that position with a never ending cycle of illness and sometimes your body just needs a break from virus after virus. And no, I obviously don't wear a mask all the time but I do a lot of outdoor sport.

Skinnermarink · 08/12/2022 15:05

Of course our bodies need a break from catching illnesses but I’m very curious to know how wearing a mask some of the time would prevent this.

Thehonestbadger · 08/12/2022 15:07

Oh yes 100000% this^

2.5yo and 18mo and we are ALWAYS POORLY
It was the same last year too. A good 4 months of being endlessly unwell, was lucky to get a couple of days between viruses and bugs. Relentless and miserable all around and this year is shaping up the same x

LaughingLemur · 08/12/2022 15:09

Because they stop you catching viruses. I was only trying to be helpful to the OP who sounded very fed up, but obviously not appreciated so I'll bowl out.

TheWorstWeek · 08/12/2022 15:30

I don't think there really is much I can do with two young DC to avoid catching everything. They bring it all home. I was wearing a mask last year in public/not particularly socialising and I still ended up ill over and over again with the kids being at school.
