The most WTF threads of 2022

InPraiseOfBacchus · 08/12/2022 13:12

I made a similar post last year and the responses were just amazing!

I feel like nothing can beat the WTF-ery of 2021 (remember the fruit-and-a-hard-drive Christmas gift, and the Chapel Screamer?), but I'd love to be proved wrong.

What have been your favourite threads from the MN Twilight Zone?

OP posts:

@sittingonacornflake I also liked that one!!

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 08/12/2022 16:27

There was one from someone who genuinely didn’t seem to realise that going to an urban park and shooting pigeons with an air rifle would likely get her into trouble. That was good.

Jingleoverthatway · 08/12/2022 16:31

The black pudding one had me in stitches

It's a troll but I've got a soft spot for the one who turns everything into a discussion about chemicals in the water.

What was the one about the ‘creepy music’ at the bottom of the garden every night, which the OP thought was ghosts… that one was good!

I saw that one! What was it in the end did we find out?

zingally · 08/12/2022 16:48

Mine was the woman who was spending all her time catering to the whims of some random male neighbour/friend. Cooking him dinner etc (and some great long ho-ha about pressure cookers). And how she couldn't cut him off because she still has the keys to a stable yard that his parents used to run and she'd lose access to a few manky blankets and buckets she still had there. Even though she didn't own a horse, and hadn't done for some years.
She then reappeared in a few other threads to complain about some bonkers young woman neighbour who keeps trying barge in on her, and oh? will she also be godmother to bonkers neighbours baby daughter?

Every little piece of advice was pooh-poohed with an essay about how that couldn't possibly work. It was hysterical and infuriating all at once.

The repeatedly deleted series of M&S threads, ft the guy who's noshing off the manager (Ethan? Aaron?) and all the staff who refuse to give advice about the best kind of chips to serve with steak.

I forgot about the epic chip saga!

I want to nominate the Christmas fridge threads of 2021 because they would have missed out on last year's list. That was incredible!

PuttingDownRoots · 08/12/2022 16:55

The live parking thread where people had ignored roadworks signs complete with tow truck. Think the dogs had their own bedroom as well.

Loved that one also the Christmas thread where the op put tinsel on her ndn no parking sign

ComeOnThenFanny · 08/12/2022 17:12

Yes, the M&S troll and her various permutations. She has been the highlight of my MN year.

Keyansier · 08/12/2022 17:13

HerMajestysRoyalCoven · 08/12/2022 15:10

I need this thread. 😂

Haven’t got a good one to mind sadly but watching this thread with interest.

It's deleted now

Keyansier · 08/12/2022 17:15

Tbh I think you can take every single day for the past 12 months and find a thread nomination for WTFOTY2022 😂

Yes! The M&S pairing. 😁
The 1st thread was very funny. The Op insisted she should get a job at M&S because she knew you should pair steaks with thick steak-cut chips.

As is inevitable, a bunch of MN posters quibbled they prefer fries with thier steak. 😂

Unfortunately it then descended into the Op being homophobic, ageist etc.

IglesiasPiggl · 08/12/2022 17:21

Got to be the one where the OP invited some male colleagues round for dinner, then didn't serve any food, to highlight that they shouldn't expect women to cater for them 😂😂😂

FoxtrotOscarFoxtrotOscar · 08/12/2022 17:32

I loved the thread about a Man With A Very Important Job who asked (demanded) his neighbour to keep her children quiet (in their own garden!) so he could make his Very Important Phone Calls without background noise.

inigomontoyahwillcox · 08/12/2022 17:36

This is brilliant OP - Mumsnet you could be on to a money spinner, an annual compendium of the most WTF/hilarious threads.

Shrew icecream?

Can I make ice cream from shrews? www.mumsnet.com/Talk/mumsnet_classics/4607290-can-i-make-ice-cream-from-shrews

I missed this first time round but clicked it now to find out what the typo in the title really meant, but nope... actual ice cream from shrews! 😂

I actually enjoy any thread where the op asks a question, and everyone tells her she's wrong, gives all the reasons why, etc, but op just hangs in there, defending her position, batting everyone away with their logic and experience. I think this year there was one like that where op wanted to send her ds to a children's party with a water pistol despite the fact it wasn't that sort of party. Sorry, can't find the link.

That thread was over a decade ago

donttalkaboutbookclub · 08/12/2022 17:50

Must have been a zombie I saw then! Or possibly it happened again...

Gunner1510 · 08/12/2022 17:54

@Tinner01 I think it might of been rain or wind or something on some old plastic pots in the neighbours garden, but I can’t remember!!

Was it this one or a copycat? It does get to get referenced a few times (which is how I saw it!)
