To keep LO off nursery until Christmas

LO started nursery in September and since then has been ill every week!

She only went back in today after the whole week off last week.

Got told today they have cases of GAS, Chickenpox and RSV confirmed in the baby room as of today!

I know LO needs to get sick to build immune system etc but we just can't catch a break! We have loads of Christmas plans and I don't want her to be poorly over this time. She's only just turned 1 and I don't want her to get any of the above!

Both me and DH work so would have to do some shuffling to keep her off but we will do anyway when she inevitably gets sick!

I'm so tempted to just keep her off and take unpaid leave. We have already started looking for alternative childcare as I've had a ridiculous amount of time off work since going back from Mat leave and I hate seeing my LO so poorly constantly!

What is LO?

What is LO?

Little One (child). Fairly obvious from the context.

Fluffluff · 07/12/2022 20:57

Yes I would do.
Been in your position and if I could turn back the clock I would have done what you arw suggesting.
We've had so many tummy bugs.. Scarlet fever.. You name it.. Ruining. Xmas

lackadaisicalsheep · 07/12/2022 20:57

What are you going to do with her while she's not in nursery? If you'd take her to soft play/ library/ baby groups then it's pretty pointless. If you'd stay at home the entire time then maybe worth doing it. Tbh for me I think it's just one of those things, sometimes they're unwell over Xmas and it is totally shit but now both of mine are at school and much more robust!

ivykaty44 · 07/12/2022 20:59

Keep her off nursery and shuffle around if you can

thing is you’ll probably end up with something as well

send her back in January

polkadotdinosaur · 07/12/2022 21:00

If you can, do. Bugs are unavoidable but understand wanting your LO to be well over Christmas, if you can.

As PP says though pointless if you’ll be at soft play and out and about. I would take some unpaid leave and get out every day into the fresh air, it will be nice for you both! I wish I could

UsingChangeofName · 07/12/2022 21:02

I don't know what work you do but is it realistic?
You presumably haven't been back at work that long and you are saying you've been off a lot since then. Would you be able to just take almost 3 weeks leave now ?

Oh yeah. Totally.

For goodness sake… why not just type “my child” or “my daughter” - the OP typed 150 words to explain their issue, I’m sure they could have typed two more out in long form.

Right but you're OK with DH, GAS and RSV?

Bippityboppitybo · 07/12/2022 21:23

Love this hahahah!

For goodness sake, you wrote 30 odd words, why couldn't you have just written original poster?! 😬

Sorry OP!

  1. any nursery setting will be pretty much the same. The first year is AWFUL for bugs especially if they've not been to playgroups etc (my LO was a lockdown baby). But it does get a lot of things out the way before school.
  1. If you want to keep your LO off because you feel that's what is best then do it. They won't mind as presumably you'll pay for it anyway.
ZeViteVitchofCwismas · 07/12/2022 22:02

Keep her off

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 07/12/2022 22:41

Yes I would bit beware that chicken pox can be in the body for two to three weeks before spots shoe so she could already have it.

I'd be paying for the CP vaccine if I were you.

We are keeping DS off after his Xmas party so he will have one week to recuperate if he gets ill before Xmas day

LizzieSiddal · 07/12/2022 22:46

It’s good she’s had a few bugs, to build up her immunity but enough is enough. keep her at home and enjoy your Xmas.

Caldecot · 07/12/2022 23:42

I've been wondering this too. Mines 8 months and goes 1 day a week since October as I'm recovering from surgery.

But it's an endless 3 week cycle - 2 weeks ill, 1 week well, repeat!!

I'm ill atm due to DD giving me her cold for the second time and the sleepless nights are a killer.

I love my one free day a week, but not sure it's worth it atm and thinking maybe i should just pay for her place but keep her off until the new year.

GAH3 · 07/12/2022 23:54

Is she settled there? My main concern would be that she'd find it difficult to go back.

If definitely recommend the CP vaccine

ChipsAreLife · 07/12/2022 23:57

I've pulled my 2 year old out as we are going away next week and I can't face him being ill on a flight that's one of the longest you can do!

I would maybe pull them out but like others have said they can pick up stuff anywhere and it does eventually calm down. Just hard this time of year with plans, I know!
