To think this GP receptionist was quite rude?

I'm on two medications which I need to take daily in the morning. There has been a change in how repeated prescriptions are dealt with, you have to order them through your local pharmacy who send the request to the doctors office. All fine and no issues up until now.

I put the request in with the pharmacy last Tuesday who sent it off the same day. It usually takes 2 working days but no prescription was approved. I chased up - nothing. By yesterday I had completely ran out of one of my meds, noritryptiline.

The pharmacy called the doctors surgery themselves to find out what had happened. GP surgery said they didn't receive last week's request but said they'll take that call as the request and have a doctor look at it.

I'm starting to feel quite ill at this point and in withdrawal. Noritryptiline should never be stopped cold turkey and I'm on 100mg per day.

I called the GP surgery myself and politely asked whether the prescription will definitely be sent today as I'm feeling really quite ill and am on my own with my baby and toddler and I'm very faint and shaky which is worrying me.

The receptionist said "well you should have ordered the prescription sooner shouldn't you, not waited until the last minute"

Aibu to think that's really bloody rude? Especially after I explained that I had ordered it last week.

What a cow. I was receptionist (not at GP, but at dentist) and would be in trouble for saying this.

Brefugee · 07/12/2022 12:55

complain to the practice manager, and ask the pharmacy if they could instigate a policy where it the prescriptions aren't received within the normal time that they follow up automatically?

Teadrinkingmumofone · 07/12/2022 12:57

I mean, she's not wrong though is she. Even if it was only 2 working days, which seems astonishingly quick compared to 10 working days at my local pharmacy, why on earth wouldn't you allow more time so you had overlap

7 days is plenty of time when the prescriptions routinely take, and have only ever taken, 2 working days at this pharmacy.

I'd say a week is enough of an overlap, wouldn't you?

She is wrong. A week is plenty of overlap for a process that takes 2 days.

Being rude to the OP because their system has failed somewhere isn’t acceptable.

Jeez read my update

I have had issue getting my repeat as its accute? I mean I have had it on NHS for years and no suddenly I can only get it on a private Prescription unless shared care?
I have never had a formal shared care letter in my life, Stupid.

bobisbored · 07/12/2022 13:07

Extremely rude. Something similar happened to my ex h and the pharmacy were able to give him an emergency dose to last a couple of days until the prescription came. Could they do that?

Dacadactyl · 07/12/2022 13:08

Yes she probably was a bit rude saying that. However, in the past when iv worked on phones in customer services environments, the tone of voice that people used to me sometimes could really get your back up.

If you were total sweetness and light to her then yes she was out of order. But if you were going into one about something that's technically not her fault then maybe yabu?

Aquarius1234 · 07/12/2022 13:08

Oh and when someone from Pharmacy team rang me they started the convo with a completely different medication?? WTF

Thank God your role dealing with customer services is 'in the past'! You sound very unsuited to it!😁

Dacadactyl · 07/12/2022 13:25

@Allschoolsareartschools 😂well if someone wants to give me shit when I'm trying to help them...they soon see a different side to me, that's for sure!

pinkpotatoez · 07/12/2022 13:28

@Teadrinkingmumofone you was rude and wrong, now you've been corrected you're still being rude. So are you just generally a impolite person ?

JenniferBarkley · 07/12/2022 13:28

She was rude but I'm guessing she's at the end of her tether. A GP friend was already frazzled and now the phones are ringing off the hook with (justifiably, she's not criticising them) worried parents.

We have located the receptionist!

PeppermintChoc · 07/12/2022 14:01

Very rude. There was a mix up with my meds recently between the GP and pharmacy, the receptionist recognised it and said she’d grab a doctor asap to sign my prescription- as yours should have.

Clarinet1 · 07/12/2022 14:07

I have had a similar situation where I have not received a repeat prescription which I had asked ti
have se to the pharmacy. I called the GP’s surgery and explained that I now needed the drugs urgently and was also told “It takes 48
hours” and it took a lot of work to point out that they’d already had a week!

Clarinet1 · 07/12/2022 14:09

Also, my GP’s seem to make a fuss if they consider you are trying to order something too soon so you can’t win!

gogohmm · 07/12/2022 14:12

Here they are asking for 5 working days minimum. Sometimes it's quicker but the drs receptionist is quite firm if you chase it up under that. They are borderline rude here too though, no need for it

A lot of the time you can't order too far in advance as it just gets rejected by the GP. My mum has this often with her diabetic meds. Obviously you don't take repeat medication nor understand the system.

OP ordered the repeat over a week ago.

Are you a dragon-type receptionist @Teadrinkingmumofone, or is it that you just enjoy popping into AIBU to invent stuff to give OP's needless kickings about?
