Christmas Eve plans and grub

What are yours?

We live abroad and are staying home this year, just dh, Dd (4) and dog
I’m thinking a nice breakfast, long dog walk in the woods, home to make mince pies for Santa, decorate xmas biscuits, watch Christmas films and get things ready for Santa.

Any ideas what to eat on Christmas Eve? Last year we did a carpet picnic under the tree with picky bits, which was nice, but fancy something different this year?

Christmas Eve dinner will be a lovely buffet type affair with cheese & biscuits, french bread & a baked camembert

Christmas Eve day time will be spent running to the farm shop & butcher & doing all the meal prep for the following day

That sounds delicious!

Here for ideas, we are baking brownies for santa this year but usually we get a Chinese Christmas eve but moneys a bit tight for that so not sure what to do! We have a buffet boxing day so don't really want to do that.

I'm taking my grandchildren to the pantomime on the 23rd and they are staying overnight. On Christmas Eve morning we will be making the dessert for Christmas Day and will take them home in the afternoon. In the evening we will be eating 'picky bits ' and putting our feet up! We are spending Christmas day with their parents.

We did a Chinese fakeaway a few weeks ago with some chicken tikka (yellow stickered bargain!), homemade chips, homemade egg fried rice and the Schwartz curry sauce👌🏻

We are doing the same as you and I can’t wait. Absolute wholesome family deliciousness with no travelling, no sleeping on lumpy guest beds. It will be glorious.

Our dog would be all over the “floor picnic” so not one for us but we will probably do something that can be cooked beforehand and then reheated like fish pie and a huge glass of white wine.

We usually have cheese and biscuits and pickles type buffet but this year going to some relatives who are cooking a gammon joint (and spoiling my Boxing Day ham plans!)

Christmas Eve is our main celebration now. Sadly
elderly parents have passed on and younger family have their own lives so we have open house for local friends and neighbours

Big nigella ham in cola. Salads - potato, Waldorf etc. Pork pies and sausage rolls, cheese boards , seafood platter. Paper plates and napkins to minimise washing up.

Christmas Day we are lucky enough to be invited next door.
