To feel like we’re living in a state of constant fear lately?

Does anyone else feel like they’re living in a constant state of fear and panic lately?

We had covid and lockdown,, then the Ukraine war and the thread of nuclear attack and now it’s strep A killing children.

I’m on edge constantly and feel like I haven’t been able to fully relax in the past three years.

The media aren’t helping.

Is anyone else feeling the same?

Problem with 24 hour rolling news & social media, limit your intake of news to once a day (if that) and choose an outlet that you trust & doesn’t scaremonger! They pick & choose what they want to scare you with, and when something bigger comes along that dump that story, turn off the news!

No. Fear and panic will not help you in any way, shape or form. If you are feeling those things then reduce social media/news if that's where the fear is coming from. I avoid conspiracy theories and doom mongers generally. Life is short enough as it is without filling your mind with lots of negative stuff, usually things that never come true anyway! Focus on what you enjoy and ignore the rest of the 'noise'.

I stopped reading the news a few years ago. That helped massively. Never before have humankind been exposed to so much bad news and most of it you can't do anything about anyway.

The 2 world wars

the millions of people that lost sons, brothers, fathers

This pales into insignificance compared with the above

I think what the poster meant is that never before we had such media outlet and exposure to terrible news from everywhere.

Which is absolutely correct

Never trouble trouble until trouble troubles you.
My children are fed and no-one is shooting at us. There really is no point in getting fearful about things you can do nothing about.

Yanbu. I’ve had such background stress today from the mistake of reading the news. Since the internet killed actual journalism, even the BBC has been getting way to sensationalist about everything with graphic scary headlines, upsetting pictures etc. The BBC website front page picture was horrible yesterday, a close up of a terrified grieving woman. Taken from Haiti, that has sod all to do with the UK and about which we can do nothing at all. They just want clicks and the interns masquerading as journalists enjoy scaring people to get clicks. 😢

Good point this. My friend moved here from China and he thinks the UK is AWESOME compared to China, it’s lovely seeing it through his eyes.

Most people seem more focused on the World Cup tbf.

Cuppasoupmonster · 07/12/2022 19:51

YANBU and given the media are our only source of news from the outside world it isn’t surprising that their doom laden headlines are actually working.

I’m sick of it all.

Scarfweather · 07/12/2022 20:08

I think the sensationalist media has a lot to do with the poor mental health and high anxiety that’s around today.
I check the news once a day…first headline about Sadiq Khan issuing emergency EXTREME cold weather measures for London. Check temperature forecasts……normal winter temperatures. It’s f@&£&&g WINTER!!!!!! It gets cold and icy, but don’t let that stand in the way of increasing everyone’s anxiety.

Sadly the BBC are doing it too. You have to be selective to access their good stuff now

No. I read the news and am informed about what is going on in the world but I'm just not a panicky type person. I take things day by day and be rational. I've dealt with a lot of crap in my life and if something else happens I'll deal with that too like I always do.

This. I watch the news because I want to be informed. We are incredibly lucky to live in Britain. The people of Ukraine,China,Hong Kong, women in Iran have real things to worry about. Nothing that is happening in this country makes me panic. We are incredibly lucky to live here.
