Asda delivery due within next hour.

Should they be tipped?

Never had an online delivery before so unsure of etiquette.

I always tip the grocery delivery people. I use them all at different times (Ocado, Sainsbury's, Co-op, Iceland, Tesco, Waitrose and Asda), and they seem pleased. Some say, "Are you sure?", which I think is funny.

They aren't supposed to expect or tout for it but they don't.

Seriously they aren't allowed to accept it. And if they do they run the risk of a disciplinary if they have unexplained cash on them when they have a bag/pocket search in store.

We always tip our Tesco delivery drivers.

Really? That is so over the top - and mean.

I have never had a delivery driver who refused a tip and I have purchased regularly on line for at least five years.

It’s really not. It’s all to do with anti bribery policies. No staff are allowed to accept gifts. It’s a blanket rule across Asda and I assume other supermarkets. It’s out the company at risk of fines. I can remember the details as the training was 6 years ago. But it’s easier to have strict blanket ban, than it is to say this role can accept this sort of gift from customers or this this role can accept this gift. It puts the company at risk of fines.

You could argue it’s mean and unfair to put them in position of risking their jobs.

Asda delivery drivers do not get the sack if they receive a tip. Hopefully people do give them a tip, they do a good job delivering groceries up flights of stairs and get paid minimum wage.
