To be scared about this random delivery

Carpetbugging · 05/12/2022 19:04

A few days ago DPD emailed me to say my parcel would be delivered etc. I've ordered lots for Christmas lately so didn't think about which parcel they meant.

Today it arrived. It's a blood pressure monitor. I didn't order it.

I know sometimes orders get muddled but this was from a company called Private Pharmacy Group who i haven't ordered anything at all from.

I have searched for them and they appear to be a some sort of parent company or wholesale company.

I am unnerved because DPD knew my email address, name and postal address, so there must have been some sort of order.

Obviously my mind is in overdrive and i assume it's drugs or some weird scam.

Can anyone put my mind at rest or shed any light please?

It was definitely addressed to you on the package?
Could it be a gift from someone you know?
Is there an invoice? - check your bank and cards for something of the same value?

MonkeyPuddle · 05/12/2022 19:09

have you taken out new life insurance?

Yourwan · 05/12/2022 19:10

You assume a blood pressure monitor is drugs? Just contact the company and say you have received something in error.

SpicyFoodRocks · 05/12/2022 19:14

Have you got an over-involved anxious mother? My mum once turned up randomly
with a BP machine as a gift that I didn’t want or need…

It's not drugs, is it? It's a blood pressure monitor!

What is the label address? Also download the app to see which company you were getting a delivery from

UnicornMumcraft · 05/12/2022 19:16

It’ll probably be a couple of companies that’ve used the label printing service and they’ve got muddled up in the system, so your label was stuck on someone else’s parcel and vice versa by DPD. I’ve heard of a few cases of it happening with different companies. Are you missing a parcel that DPD are also meant to be delivering?

Blood pressure monitors are

  1. too expensive to do that with
  2. regulated medicial devices - people aren’t just going to start making them in their garage and then sell unless it’s on very dodgy web sites
Allergictoironing · 05/12/2022 19:20

PPG are a valid pharmacy group, used by private health care organisations, my ADHD meds prescribed by Psychiatry UK are supplied through them. They also supplied a blood pressure monitor as I have to record my blood pressure regularly while undergoing titration (getting the dosage levels right), though that arrived months before my titration started; I actually already have my own anyway so never even opened it.

I got my diagnosis through my GP, but they outsource it in my area as the waiting lists are so long otherwise. So if you, or any DC, have been recently diagnosed with anything that needs blood pressure checks e.g. because of meds, that could be a reason.

Thats why you can get 'em off ebay for just over a tenner.

Na its brushing.

RedToothBrush · 05/12/2022 19:25

In fact the cheapest I can find on ebay is £1.99! With free postage. For a new one.

MustBeDueSomeBetterFeet · 05/12/2022 19:28

I don't understand why you're so worried that DPD - a courier company - have your name and address. Have you never had a delivery from them before?

FlissyPaps · 05/12/2022 19:32

Only on Mumsnet are people scared of deliveries 🙄

Just research the company and ensure they are legit then contact them and say you didn’t order the item and arrange for the courier to collect it or for you to return it.

If you are concerned it’s drugs or you are in danger then report it 101.

JubJubsMomma · 05/12/2022 19:36

I had a similar thing happen with Amazon. Random parcels sent to house in my name I hadn’t ordered. Rang them to see if they were gifts as 2 of them were baby things and we’d recently had a baby (so creepy) but they said they were ordered by me! I told them I absolutely hadn’t ordered the items and when they looked into it found a separate account had been set up in my name but not my bank details. Still so dodgy this could happen and as someone said above could be that ‘brushing’ scam.

  1. Nope, not that expensive really £20 for a decent one
  2. Nope, can buy them in Boots and numerous websites. GPs regularly tell folks to buy their own

Yes! Thank you so much @Allergictoironing . I've just started adhd treatment through Psychiatry UK. I am not good at checking emails so had no idea they were sending me this.

Case closed. gavel.

Thank you.

Always check your emails for stuff from them, though they do send me a text as well, as they are usually telling you there's a message or similar on the portal. All my titration is done through the portal, where I have to record things like BP, pulse rate, any side effects & mood changes weekly - you also have to do the full symptoms questionnaire every few weeks. You are warned that if you don't do this, you will be signed off from them so really important you get it done!

Alexchester · 06/01/2024 22:33

Hi omg iv had the exact same thing happen to me from the same company I also go the emails from dpd and have been sent a blood pressure machine! Im now very worried. What should I do? They have acesss to my adress and email!

ArchetypalBusyMum · 06/01/2024 22:40

@Allergictoironing how lucky is op that you can't along with both your posts!

I've learnt about brushing today so I've been educated.

As I said above a year ago, this is 100% legit if you've had a recent diagnosis through psychiatry UK. Of course the delivery company know where you live and have your email address, as how can they send you notification of a delivery and actually deliver it otherwise?

They will also have your phone number, as if you receive your ADHD meds through the post (rather than a prescription) then they text you a time they are due to arrive and a PIN, as the delivery driver can't hand the meds over without the PIN.

Putyourdamnshoeson · 07/01/2024 08:24

The irony that this thread exists in the first place and has now been resurrected, when it's linked to ADHD meds really tickles me 🤣

widowtwankywashroom · 07/01/2024 08:32

Post is from 2022
I hope the poster still isn't frightened of deliveries
