AIBU to be nervous?

DH stopped driving 4-5 years ago, we don’t need a car. We live in a major UK city in a place with great transport links. He cycles to work every day. I don’t drive either and I work locally. We’re going to see our family in Europe where it’s difficult to get somewhere if you don’t drive. It was the family that usually helped us in the past and we never stay too long, however this time DH wants to rent a car. AIBU to be very anxious about it? It’s us and 2 children. What would you do?

Not to drip feed, DH suffered in a car crash that wasn’t his fault in the past. He’s a reasonably good driver with a few fines paid in the past for the wrong parking or such, not too serious. I guess I’m just an anxious mess.. I don’t know if it’s safe to start driving in another country after such a big break?

Do you have time to do a mock test?

You don’t just forget how to drive. I don’t Think this is a drama.

In my personal view, once you can drive you can drive. Honestly I think it’s fine. He can always do a 2-hr refresher with a local driving instructor if really concerned? Enjoy your Xmas break OP xx

Really? It’s a family trip. There will be children in the car. No, it’s not only up to him, it’s up to everyone to decide.

I’ll talk to DH again and see if he wants a refresher or something. I do theoretically understand that’s it’s a skill you can’t forget, however being out of practice has got to affect it somehow. Thank you!
