To want consistent wfh policies at work

The company I work for have a head office and then the rest of the team work out of other buildings across London which we manage.

HO staff have the flexibility of working from home and many reduce to a 4 day week when they return from mat leave.

The rest of the staff 'on site' do not get this luxury and it's annoying me the more I think about it.

AIBU to think policies should be equal for all staff?

I have a meeting about it next week.

You haven’t given enough info here.

What’s the industry? What does “on-site” mean in the context of this organisation?

What’s your role, and what’s your rationale for believing it can be done on a WFH basis?

Whats your meeting about, and with whom?

Fleabigg · 04/12/2022 20:06

If the staff are carrying out different roles then I wouldn’t expect exactly the same policies. I’d expect consistency across roles/posts/job descriptions, but there’s not enough information to say whether what you want is reasonable or not.

Lockdownmummy · 04/12/2022 20:09

What does the actual policy say though? Is it about they way the policy is being applied rather than the policy itself?

Are the roles between the locations comparable?

Everyone has the right to request flexible working but how employers deal with it can be very varied unfortunately.

Consistent policies don’t always work though. I’m our place some departments can facilitate a 4 day week, some departments can work from home, some of the business is manufacturing so can’t work from home but they get paid overtime and salaried roles don’t.
It’s really hard to tell if your employer is being unreasonable or not as we don’t know enough about the company or what the difference between head office and “on site” really mean.
Hopefully the meeting brings you some answers.

Depends if all staff are doing the same thing

Our operational staff have to be in 5 days a week. The admin staff come in 3 days.

Womencanlift · 04/12/2022 20:20

Of course wfh cannot be consistent for every company. A surgeon can’t exactly wfh but admin staff can

You haven’t give enough context for us to agree or disagree with you

Can staff without children work a 4 day week?

Purplecatshopaholic · 04/12/2022 20:36

Policies are frequently different in different job roles with different requirements and this is quite reasonable. Some roles may be more suitable for home working or condensed hours etc, than others. We need more info to comment op.
