Cash present for nursery child

Hi
My 3 year old had just started receiving invitations for children’s parties. Would it be ok to put cash in the card or should I buy a present? I know presents are nice for the child to open but I don’t know what the child has or will like, so I feel like it’s more sensible to give cash so the parents can buy something.they actually want/don’t already have.

Jesus God - a ÂŁ15 present for a THREE year old?!

Glad it's not just me. Under a fiver is perfectly ok I think - and I say that as a giver and as the parent of a receiver. A bit more - up to ÂŁ10 - if the child is a particularly close friend of your DC.

Tenner in a card is my go to, unless I actually know the child well and can get something they really like.

I'd much prefer cash that my child can spend on something decent than 30 pieces of plastic tat that either go unplayed with or break.

While The Works 10 for ÂŁ10 books are a great deal, they're often dull as dishwasher to read.

I’m going to go with a small toy or game but also include a gift receipt so they can exchange if they already have it. That seems to be a good compromise as they will get a gift but also won’t be a waste of money if it’s something they already have/don’t want.

@hauntedvagina glad I'm not alone.

I tend to just ask when I text to rsvp for an indication of what the child is into and would like to receive
