Neighbours nappies

Neighbours have a toddler and now a new baby. We've started to notice a funny smell when sitting outside, sometimes like sewage (so bad I had to go inside) and sometimes like drainage. I've realised they have a bin full of nappies outside their front door and they don't close the lid. I find this pretty grim. AIBU unreasonable to say something nicely?

You sit outside the FRONT of your house? How very Onslow.

Is it full of rain water too?

Mamaneedsadrink · 03/12/2022 23:12

Righto, you missed the point. Both houses face the sea so my balcony is at the 'back', her front door faces my back door. I don't live in the UK.

If it’s close enough to smell… whilst sitting outside the front of your house in winter… could you not just shut the lid yourself?

Cross post. So you can’t reach the bin then? I’d just shout please could you shut the nappy bin next time you see them, hopefully it won’t be a big deal.

NoSquirrels · 03/12/2022 23:15

It would probably be worthwhile to say ‘I’m not in the UK and it’s not winter here’ in your OP.

mumwon · 03/12/2022 23:15

yuck flies ...

Mamaneedsadrink · 03/12/2022 23:16

Her place has a gate, plus I think it would be rude going into her private property. I also find it strange she has the bin right outside her front door, but that's probably so it's easy for them to access. It's heading into summer here so I'm thinking it'll get worse and attract flies. It's actually not that close maybe 5 metres? But it smells if there's a breeze so I assume it's the bin. It's not all the time either that's why I'm wondering if I'm just being pedantic

No, the front door has a little 'roof' so it's sheltered

I'd just ask, nappies stink, I was so glad when my kids were rid of them 😂

Ivyonafence · 03/12/2022 23:26

Just tell them you can smell their nappy bin, could they please move it.

It's pretty gross of them. Nappies shouldn't stink that much, they should drop the poo into the toilet rather than putting it into landfill anyway.

oakleaffy · 03/12/2022 23:40

@Mamaneedsadrink You really are not at all unreasonable.
Nappies REEK.
Especially toddler nappies if they haven't begun potty training :(

I know this as once had a neighbour with the same issue..Flies buzzing about the bin, with the nappy smell.

At a National Trust house, the women's loo reeked so badly from the nappy bin people were complaining.

I empathise.

Someone said it is because nappies can hold much ''Bigger loads'' these days that they smell awful, especially in warm weather.

Ditto dog poo bins.

Exactly! Drop the poo down the loo.
