To report neighbours

We can constantly hear our neighbours (old 1920s semi) but tonight is on another level. They are having a Christmas party and the entire house is literally shuddering with noise. Sitting here typing this i can hear them singing and shouting word for word. They are banging on the party wall. There is no way I can possibly deal with this and DD (18) who had recent spinal surgery so struggling anyway is crying over it.

AIBU to ring the council noise police?

Have you contacted them to ask them to lower the volume?

Do they have parties every weekend?

clipclop5 · 03/12/2022 22:46

@Littlefish We have just moved in a few weeks ago so I’m not sure if this is a regular occasion or not! They are very drunk and considering we don’t know them at all I don’t feel comfortable going round on my own to ask them to turn it down

What is the council noise police?

clipclop5 · 03/12/2022 22:50

Where we live the council operate a phone line where you can report noise disturbances, with officers who can enforce it

Once it gets to 11pm, yes go ahead and call the council noise abatement line and they may send someone out (since they usually have teams on Sat night).

I’d knock about 6am and when they answer the door, ask if they had a good time? Just nicely tell them you found it loud but would like to get along with them if possible, so your going to put some music on and could they let you know when it gets to loud for them so you have a gauge

HoppingPavlova · 03/12/2022 22:57

If it’s a one off, Xmas party this time of year is understandable, suck it up. If it’s frequent then complain.

clipclop5 · 03/12/2022 22:57

@HundredMilesAnHour Thank you, will do

@HoppingPavlova We only moved in a few weeks ago so I have no idea if this is going to be a regular occurrence or not. They seem to be professional people but tend to be very loud anyway - I have had to buy DD noise cancelling earplugs to sleep in since we moved.

They are now shouting antisemetic hurls - definite phone call to council noise line. Thank you everyone

The police won’t do anything. I tried about a year ago I our last home to be told they don’t go to calls of noise nuisance anymore. Sadly these days noisy neighbours is something we have to tolerate or fight for absolutely ages to stop
