DS fell.

We're at my in laws and DS fell asleep (8 months) on MILs bed, we padded pillows around the bed so that he wouldn't be able to fall, but somehow did.

We ran to the room he was in (that we had literally
been in 2 minutes before, and he was fast asleep in the middle of the bed) DH, grabbed him panicking, when I asked to hold him he snapped that he had him, but then gave him to MIL followed by FIL.

Aibu to get annoyed that DS was passed around when i wanted to check if DS was responding/had any marks, and no one else did?

YANBU but you should have said something instead of just watching him be passed about.

christmastime11 · 03/12/2022 20:25

I wouldn't be happy either. But you shouldn't leave him asleep on the bed if he's mobile.

Chamomileteaplease · 03/12/2022 20:28

YANBU of course you wanted to hold him and why would your dh pass him to anyone else but you?

Also agree rather daft to put an 8 month old on a bed, even with pillows. Lesson learnt.

i was following around, more concerned about checking if he was ok, scruffling through his hair, and whatnot looking around. when i actually processed that he was being passed around i asked to take him, which they happily obliged to, just annoyed at DH

Maybe he just panicked … not everyone makes A1 decisions when stressed

lesson definitely learnt. will not be happening again. i'll ask if we can buy a mattress to put on the floor in their storage unit for when we come over, or opt for shorter visits

OP you’re likely in shock. It’s horrible when things like this happen but lessons learnt for next time. Your husband was likely in shock too so don’t be too hard on him for his reaction.

BrutusMcDogface · 03/12/2022 20:32

Travel cot next time?

Littlemissprosecco · 03/12/2022 20:32

Everyone was stressed, baby’s ok. No blame anywhere, these things happen.

America12 · 03/12/2022 20:32

Travel cot to leave there ?

TheTartfulLodger · 03/12/2022 20:34

Perhaps just stay in the room with him while he sleeps until he is bigger. I am sure everyone was as shocked as you and probably all equally anxious to check him over when it happened so i probably wouldn't be too hard on your other half just on that small detail..

piperx2 · 03/12/2022 20:34

travel cot is a very good idea, we'll be buying one of those. thank you! and thank you for your lovely comments. i think we're all just shocked and stressed from the situation.

You can't leave a mobile baby alone unless they are in a safe travel cot. You can't leave a baby on a mattress on the floor it isn't safe.

MissMaple82 · 03/12/2022 20:37

I cant understand what your annoyed about? You wanted to comfort him first?? I'm sure you got hold of him within a few minutes or so, how has them minutes impacted him?

TheTartfulLodger · 03/12/2022 20:37

Don't be too hard on yourself either, i think you will struggle to find a new mum who has not had a similar fright like this.

SleepingStandingUp · 04/12/2022 00:31

I get you op, but remember he was as stressed and worried as you, he also wanted to hold him and comfort him, he also couldn't think straight for panic.

AttilaTheUOkHun · 04/12/2022 00:33

They live in a storage unit?!
