In thinking no-one else's husband is as big a berk as mine?

We went to buy a tree today from a garden centre.
What does my dear (supposedly) intelligent husband do? Choose a tree, while I am away for 3 minutes looking for poinsettias, which looks so bare on the bottom half we might as well have bought one half the size.
I pointed it out at the time, and instead of admitting I was right, he says it will be fine and I should stop 'going on'.
When we got it back home he has as much as admitted I was right by cutting 12+ inches off the bottom, so we now have tiny tree and might as well have bought a small one to begin with.
We also have wood shavings from where he cut it and needles from branches taken off all over the living room carpet which he hasn't bothered to clean as they've appeared so are now being tracked all over the house.
What a great start to Christmas!

@FeebasAquarium i didn't know that ‘Berkshire hunt’ that’s hilarious 😭😭😭

I don't think that emoticon means what you think it does.

I love this post! And the comments and the poem. 😄 your husband has appalling judgement when it comes to Christmas trees. Yet at the same time the tree is cute as a button.

If it still had its bare bottom, you could have filled in with poinsettias 😂

May I add my dh to the 'berk list'?
After a discussion we decided that we weren't going to do Xmas cards this year. Later that day dh comes home with 4 packs of cards. When I asked if he'd changed his mind about not sending cards, he said that he hadn't. However, these were reduced and thus a bargain. Speechless

How would you know it's Christmas if you don't have the tree argument?

(The holiday equivalent is the packing row.)

This brings back memories of mum and dad putting up the tree. The tree was ok it was getting it to stand upright without falling over.

They usually put it in some kind of a container with sand in it. I remember there were words said but once it finally got sorted we were allowed to decorate. Dm eventually got an artificial tree and so putting the tree up was a lot less stressful. This was before you could get fancy tree holders I believe.
After we got married dm was going to throw out the tree but I rescued it and used it for another lot of years.

Why using a real tree just for a few decorations? 😥😥😥

LindorDoubleChoc · 03/12/2022 20:14

Yanbu. I would be raging at all of that ... utter berk.

Also, terrible of the tree selling place to sell one like that.

Cherrysoup · 03/12/2022 20:21

Tell him to clean up after himself, the idiot!

7eleven · 03/12/2022 20:27

I’m sorry to laugh, but that is quite funny. I hope he’s good in bed to make up for it 😂

WaddleAway · 03/12/2022 20:29

That’s a really bizarre looking tree 😂

LilyAndTheKing · 03/12/2022 20:33

I like the tree.
My DH doesn't want to talk about Christmas decorations yet, it's too early apparently 😥

See I'm a day after boxing day take it all down kind of person, so now is definitely the right time.

Mine put all of our baby’s first birthday money in an empty card envelope yesterday to keep safe… then put the envelope in the recycling… then took the recycling to his work as our bin was full… So we had to go fish it out the huge bin this afternoon, luckily their bins don’t get collected on a weekend! 🤦🏻‍♀️

MysteryBelle · 03/12/2022 21:20

Loving all these stories. My dh is obsessed with artificial trees. This year I was going to get a real tree and he preempted me and put up the fake one before I could do it.

Brings to mind an argument of Christmas past when he couldn't get it to sit straight in the pot so he tied it up against the wall.

It looked like we were holding the Christmas tree hostage.

This made me laugh, hope your DH cleaned up the mess! The tree is cute😀
