Wouldn't bother me in itself, having been through various mergers. But depends whether you see this as a positive, and could bring benefits - other opportunities in the future, wider scope for your new job etc. Or if you think it's a negative, as if there could be redundancies as a result of the merger, you may find yourself in a vulnerable position with less legal protection than other colleagues.

I would be leaving my current job for a new company so I have no idea :(

I would have lots of questions that I would want answered.

Having had unbroken service since 1986 but under more company names than I can remember offhand due to mergers and takeovers, this sort of change isn't necessarily bad and could be good but you definitely need to find out more. IME it may depend a lot on your role - finance and admin staff may be particularly vulnerable to rationalisation, whereas if a company has been acquired for some particular product or service, the staff directly involved in that bit may be part of what the buyer was paying for.

Two housing companies are joining. The job is to coordinate contracts. So I’m not sure if vulnerable or not.

True obviously - but do you have any idea about why the merger is happening? What is happening in the wider industry - are mergers common? Do you expect the same volume of work to be happening e.g. 2 offices / factories still operating as they are - or 2 become 1. That would give you a good feeling as to whether your new job carries on as is .... or whether redundancies might be expected in the future.
Whatever research you did for the interview could be expanded upon to maybe give you an answer?

The other angle is - why did you apply for the new job in the first place? If those reasons still stand, then might as well go with the new company & just take your chances.

They apparently worked together on some projects and this merger has been spoken about for a long time (at least four years). It will finalise mid year.
