@goldfinchfan i think we absolutely can discuss why ‘migrants’ (I assume you mean asylum seekers but please correct me if I’m wrong) are not screened or vaccinated, as long as the blame is placed firmly at the feet of the government, and not the asylum seekers.
After all, it’s the home office who’ve insisted that boat crossings increase. (See: Braverman admitting that if you weren’t from the 2 or 3 countries with resettlement schemes, that only way to claim asylum was to arrive on British shores. So why didn’t they ensure there was the infrastructure to cope with that? They knew that closing safe routes and shutting down entrance by lorry would result in higher boat crossings.
And if we’re talking about blame for diphtheria, does the blame lie with the migrant who contracted diphtheria in Manston due to the unsanitary conditions caused by overcrowding? Or with the home office for detaining 3 times the number of people allowed in one facility, allowing diphtheria and scabies to spread, and for not having a functioning screening program, then moving people around the country with informing local public health about what they were doing?
I agree with you that the UK (govt) needs to deal with this in an intelligent manner, but they won’t, not when there’s division to be stoked. Anyone blaming asylum seekers - the ones who have no choice about where they’re housed, or moved to, or what diseases they’re exposed to - is seriously short of brains.
