So scared of Strep A

AIBU to be completely terrified by the reports of Strep A deaths.

I have two small children and feel beside myself with worry. I keep crying and am considering keeping them both off school until after Christmas.

I appreciate this may sound a bit dramatic but I really wish I had

Those posters ridiculing health anxiety in such a sniping and hurtful manner lack empathy and ironically, they are probably the ones with a personality disorder. Because to display such rudeness and venom to a poster who has lost her baby comes across as dysfunctional and disordered. Or maybe they are just a common garden bitch.

I can't really understand the hostility to those of us (including me) who suffer with health anxiety. I literally had to shield for eighteen months, I think a lot of us are (understandably) a bit traumatised from the last pandemic and have heightened anxiety due to that.

Hi, I was away from the thread so didn’t see the reply, however I apologise if I took @ElmoNeedsThePotty post in the wrong way. I read it as sarcasm and if it was a genuine question, then I genuinely apologise.

it seems the response was unpleasant so I’m glad I didn’t see it, but thanks to the posters who responded on my behalf.

@ElmoNeedsThePotty im very sensitive about people mocking or belittling health anxiety so I do tend to jump on the defence.

Thanks to all those who have sent informative, kind posts.

Without doubt I am someone who is prone to worry about illness, particularly in DC.

Having had a child who spent the beginning of their life in NICU I'm keen to avoid ever having to repeat the experience

It's understandable but always keep in mind that the media does tend to hype things up.

@Trez1510 @ElmoNeedsThePotty does it feel nice to keep kicking someone when they're down. Safely behind your computer screens making someone else feel worse because they dare to mention the trauma they've experienced. It isn't a race to the bottom or a competition for who has had a harder life. Elmo's original comment about the change of terminology wasn't related to the thread, it was a dig at people. Maybe they changed the term because as we all know hypochondria was just viewed as someone being hysterical (of course a woman too) and wasn't taken seriously as a condition. But hey ho, as long as you two feel better about yourselves right now by point scoring and trying to act as if it was an innocent comment! Bringing other people down because you have also suffered hardships doesn't make anything better for you, it just makes someone else feel crap as well - congratulations - how would you feel if someone behaved in this manner towards your children 🤨

I have no children. I was not 'kicking' anyone, however I guess you reported my previous response to you where I explained that in straighforward terms, along with my lack of appreciation of your 'moral high ground' stance based on (wilfully?) not comprehending my post.

But, hey-ho, off you go trotting along on your imaginary high-horse.

It can be hard not to be anxious when we've just been through this pandemic. If you're anxious as a person already then it can feel overwhelming.

Try to keep it in perspective. Make sure you're aware of the symptoms but don't over obsess looking out for them.
My daughter has scarlet fever currently. Its not pleasant but it hasnt been too scary and she's doing well as the antibiotics are definitely working now.

fiftiesmum · 06/12/2022 09:40

Why aren't adults getting this - probably because they had it as children and recovered.
Annoying how private testIng firms are cashing in on it just like they did with covid. How long before we see Tory donors also cashing in on it, getting paid for substandard items and then denying they made any money (allegedly)

Trez1510 · 06/12/2022 10:26

My ever-cynical mind tells me this is the final brick in the Tories' dismantling of the NHS wall upon which we all lean at some point.

Aided and abetted by their tame media, terrifying parents into overwhelming GPs, out-of-hours, pharmacists and A&E in order that the NHS finally buckles.

The UK is broken beyond measure and all of us are being played for fools.
