DD fatigued a week after stomach bug

DD6 had a stomach bug - 2-3 fairly grim days of diarrhoea and vomiting/bringing up bile. Drank sweetened squash throughout to help keep her hydrated and give her some energy.

It's now been more than a week after any incidence of sickness or diarrhoea but she's still very weak and pale. Has a runny nose and blocked ears. Sleeping later than usual and ready for bed earlier than usual. Eating slightly less than normal but poos back to normal. We've spent the week resting with the odd short walk.

She tried one half day at school midweek and was very very tired after it.

My question is - is this normal after a tummy bug? Should I be calling the doctor? It seems like a very long recovery time. I didn't do a COVID test as it seemed like a tummy bug, but could it be some kind of post viral fatigue thing?

Yabu - let her recover longer and she'll be fine
Yabu - call the doctor, that sounds unusual

DD had a stomach bug recently and was very fatigued afterwards she's since developed another virus and is generally run down. I think it's more likely she's had a couple of things going on simultaneously, there is so much going around right now.

You've just described me . Dp thinks i have Norovirus as the cases are soaring

CustardUnicorn · 02/12/2022 19:54

@HaveANiceFuckingDay sorry to hear that! It's rough.

Is there anything that helps recovery? Trying to get some iron tonic in her but she spits it out

@Singleandproud hope your DD is all back to normal soon

I think you should give it a bit longer, see how she goes over the weekend. With a view to a visit to the gp if no improvement at all next week.

PS don't give her an iron tonic if she's just had a vomiting bug, they are tough to digest.

You are doing everything right at the moment. It's not unusual to be weak for quite a while after a bug. In a few days your daughter will start to perk up, bless her.

Noonesperfect · 02/12/2022 20:03

Chicken broth is supposed to be very nutritious and gentle on the stomach. Don't push your daughter too quickly back to school, sometimes the body just needs to rest.

Autumnmoonshines · 02/12/2022 20:05

With the runny nose and blocked ears I would be going to drs incase she has an ear infection Which is causing her to feel so tired.

CustardUnicorn · 02/12/2022 20:15

Thanks @Noonesperfect she'll never touch soup or anything in a sauce, annoyingly!

@Autumnmoonshines wouldn't she complain of pain with an ear infection?

@CustardUnicorn honestly I can’t answer that! I think I’m personally feeling over cautious because of the news lately.

CustardUnicorn · 02/12/2022 20:22

Yeah me too @Autumnmoonshines , prob why I started the thread tbh

Have just found this

DD fatigued a week after stomach bug

A week off school with no vomiting and loose stools I would consider 111 over the weekend, ask for a call back from nurse/doctor see what they think.
