To expect my SSP to be paid?

Hi, would appreciate some advice here! I broke my arm at the end of October, bad enough to require surgery and necessitated me taking a prolonged period off work- still unable to return due to the physical nature of my job.

I was advised by my GP that I would need to self certify for the first week (for some reason this was not addressed when I was in hospital!) and they provided a fit note for 4!weeks following this for my employer. All fine and dandy, so I thought.

On my usual payday I received no SSP. After some digging, it transpired that the documents I had provided (via email as requested by my boss/ had not been forwarded to the HR team, but saved in drafts instead.

Payroll are advising me that this will be rectified next payday (23rd December) but refusing to pay it out sooner as a matter of urgency. Do I have to accept this, or is there a legal obligation to pay it out ASAP? I'm in dire financial straits atm.

Any advice much appreciated!

That's outrageous. It most certainly is their problem.

I'd contact Citizens Advice

Good luck

No, if it's their fault, next payday is not acceptable. Law says it should be dealt with ASAP. I'm quite fresh on this topic, as my husband's company didn't pay him (he switched from agency to contract), and he made payroll life living hell. I don't know why stupid HR & payroll always assume you have loads of money in your bank, and you can carry on without being paid for another few weeks. Morons.

yeah, it's grim. sadly I've been through something similar before- started a new job and the management team neglected to put my first week's shifts on the system. The amount of exhausting calls I had to make to HR for their fuck up was a joke.

Hospitality industry at it's finest 😒
