To wonder if OJ Simpson was tried today would he be found guilty?

I’m watching OJ: Made in America as part of Storyville on bbc iplayer.

It’s absolutely insane to me that some of the jury commented afterwards that they were there for a murder case not domestic abuse and so in effect they disregarded the multiple phone calls, the injuries she had in the years and months prior to her murder.

do you think things have changed much that a jury today would put more weight on to all of the domestic abuse evidence or are we still where we were nearly 30 years ago?

I would hope it would be more likely but you never know. Possibly in the UK as we don't have jury selection here like they do in America.

V true @Bobbybobbins

i realise there are a lot of other factors that were at play; the distrust of the lapd in the wake of Rodney king, Eula Love to name just two cases. The media coverage both in and out of the courtroom.

just a very sad watch to see two victims who never got justice.

Sadly not. Men get away with being horrifically violent towards women and practically nothing has changed

As a victim of domestic abuse (now very safe and very happy) I think you’re sadly right @LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet

yes I think he would be

understanding of dv has changed

he was on trial a few years after the Rodney King case that led to the LA riots his team were able to tap into the mistrust of the LAPD especially when convicting a black man

the mistrust is still there for good reason but I’m not sure the city is so divided

Unfortunately the US has a heavily politicised and sensationalist media based judicial system. It relies so heavily upon showmanship and opinion based on a polarised political landscape that the impartiality of the law is often called into question. I don’t think this has changed.

I love the UK judicial system and the impartiality of the judicial system that attempts to interpret laws solely based on the words in the acts of Parliament and sometimes may refer to Hansard when language is too ambiguous. This is imperfect but the judges and judiciary in general are civil servants acting on their duties to the state rather than courting political capital, despite the ranting of the right wing media
