Developers wants me to assist the builders with their snagging issues

I recently moved into a new build and there is a major snagging issue: they have filled in lots of cracks in the foundation with this cement mixture, which is uneven and causes discomfort when walking on the carpets.
They have came around today and said that they can rectify it but they would need each of the rooms cleared to strip the carpet back and work on it. I live in a flat, so there is minimal space to move furniture to another room as the cracks affect the whole property.
I have told the developers that the builders can come to sort it out, but due to the size of the items I will not be able to shift the furniture. As it is their mistake (they tried to cover their bodge job and hope I didn't notice), am I being unreasonable in not moving the furniture as it is too big and heavy.
I will remove the smaller items (TV, cushions etc), but I do not feel like I am going to put myself in discomfort to attempt to shift heaver items.

I'm not sure their workers will be able to move it either - they're normally not insured to move large or heavy items (incase it hurts the workers) in customers private property. When we had some people out to fix snags, they weren't able to move furniture, we had to.

If it's your furniture I would think you should move it / arrange to have it moved, it's not really the workers job either (they're there to fix not move furniture!).

Can you negotiate professional movers paid by the developer?

wizzywig · 01/12/2022 18:27

God, I read that as shagging issues

Tinkerbyebye · 01/12/2022 18:29

You need to advise the developer that, as part of sorting the issue, they need to provide professional movers for the day to move the furniture for you as you are unable to and it’s unlikely any workers doing the flooring would be insured

I would expect the developer to pay for a removal company to clear all the furniture, store it in a removals lorry and then bring the furniture back once the repairs were completed and the floor covering relaid.

The developers should sort out all problems without your assistance, including removing & storing all furniture, replacing all floor coverings without damage, & it would seem likely that the remedial works would need time to dry out, so a hotel stay might be necessary.

Basically, not your problem.
