That a used car having had a "lady owner" is not something to value

Searching for a used car on autotrader and other websites I see that reference is made to the car having had a 'lady driver' or 'lady owner' and this make it a better buy than a bog standard car.

Whilst I would be intrigued to have a car that has been owned by a member of the aristocricy I dont think that they are referring to this.

Instead they generally mean that the car has a low mileage and has only been used for local trips. To my mind this is not necessarily a good thing - surely these local short trips add more strain to the car than long motorway trips implied by a higher mileage.

Friend (male) also suggested that these cars are less likely to have had oil changes/ services etc and also that long nails make marks on the door handles but I think this was just his bad experience!

I am looking at cars in the region of £5-8,000, so usually 7+ years old and on second or third owner

So should I go for the lady owned or treat them with scepticism?

YANBU
My NDN (a lady) drives her cars with fucking divers boots on her right foot and v little control of her left, clutch pedal foot.
It makes me wince when she reverses off the drive.
It's just so abusive.

Just to qualify my earlier post...
I don't mind giving a car "the beans" when necessary...but I was taught to drive by a rally driver.😉
Not sure that a corsa should be over-revved when trying to get off your own drive. 🤦‍♀️

We were told our car was previously driven only by a nun as a selling point! Not sure if true as no way to check 😂

Presumably the nun wouldn't have picked up any bad habits........

(Sorry, I'll get my coat......)

Statistically men have more accidents per individual than women, but drive significantly more miles than women so their accident rate per mile is actually lower. Men are involved in a disproportionate amount of serious or fatal accidents. Basically a small subset of men drive like total dickheads so the average male driver is a higher accident risk but the median male is lower.

Of course the statistics only take into account recorded accidents, serious enough to merit a police report or insurance claim. Anecdotally, all the women I know have lots of minor scrapes and bashes which go unreported, the men tend to keep their cars much nicer and very occasionally completely write one off. Neither tend to maintain their cars properly.

As for buying a car I'd pay it no heed either way, judge on condition and service history. Unless you know the previous owner you can't judge on anything other than what you can see.

Very sexiest comment from your friend in my opinion. I'm the second owner of my car and it has a service every year, oh I drive on motorways too!
