So we have been in our house for 1 year and the deco is really dated and making me miserable.

we will get a lump sum of money soon, at least a year from now but maybe more.

so I want to change the carpets to a nice neutral colour to make the house more cosy.

what I am stuck on :

do I get cheap carpet for about £600 it’s basic and not the nicest but neutral

or do I get a nicer carpet and laminate floor that will cost about £1200?

the carpet will stay for a year at least maybe more and then it will get ripples out when it gets ruined during the extension.

what would you do ?

If its only going to be down for a year then I would go for the cheaper option. Why pay double for something that's going to get ripped up again soon?

Hushpuppy1 · 30/11/2022 20:55

I would just live with it until the extension is done, and then put in something nice. Silly and a waste to buy now to rip out in a year.

Keep the £600 for something nice for your extension 👌

Lancrelady80 · 16/02/2023 20:04

For the sake of one year, live with what you have and save the money for something nice when the work is done.

I’d stick with what you’ve got. Maybe get it deep cleaned if it’s gross but even £600 is too much to throw away on impatience.

Frangipanitime · 16/02/2023 21:04

If it’s a year and your extension is booked in then keep as is, what a waste to put one in to rip it up

Look on line, lots of people just want rid of carpets they don't like & have the money to replace, often very new carpet the previous owners put down.

seconds/off cuts from carpet places. The bedrooms can all be different, doesn't matter.

depends how much £600 or £1200 is to you though, & compared to how you feel.
