Fuck psoriasis and eczema!

honestly, I’m fed up of it. Seriously- fuck psoriasis.

my scalp is covered in scales, plaques and thick chunks of skin. I can’t have my hair up because it’s so obvious. I’ve actually just woken up because I must have rolled on my pillow and my skin has all cracked open and my pillow is covered in blood now. A massive crust (easily 1 inch by 2 inches) has just come off my head and I actually feel like I’m shedding a whole new scalp.

im so fed up of it all. It’s embarrassing, painful, and an absolute dick to live with. I’ve grouped it with eczema in my title as that sounds horrendous to deal with aswell.

i’ve had almost every form of steroid available for it and no real improvement. I’ve tried every shampoo and am fed up with people in real life trying to be helpful by suggesting t gel, or asking if I’ve ever heard of a coal tar shampoo- no, that one must have passed me and my dermatologist by🙄 I know I sound grumpy and people are only trying to help and don’t mean to be patronising, but it’s so frustrating having people comment on it at all never mind suggesting things as if it will fix it straight away. It’s also really frustrating hearing people casually describe little bits of dry skin as eczema or psoriasis, i know in some people it can be mild dry skin but generally it’s not and I feel like some people don’t understand just how awful it can be 😢

arghh, I’m just so fed up of it all! Just needed a good rant and to get this all off my chest.

anyone else fed up with their shitty skin?!

I’ve had psoriasis since a 10 year old 😔
I now use Cerave cream in body and L’Oréal botanics lavender shampoo and conditioner on my head. This keeps it u set control for me but one of my friends can’t use tgese and has to use steroids.. unfortunately everyone is different..
i do believe it is is stressed related so…

I too have Psoriasis and agree fully with - fuck psoriasis!

I turned 21, had a bad bout of flu and then had head to toe psoriasis and developed so many allergies. I'm 42 now, so that's 21 years of non relenting psoriasis and everything that comes with it.

Over the years I've had many, many 'helpful' suggestions. If a bit of E45, or snake oils etc was the solution then I wouldn't of had:
Light treatment (UVA and UVB) - and got horribly burned
Methotrexate (low dose chemo) - puked for months and months
Humira (biologics) - now have nerve damage (very rare side effect)
Every steroid, lotion and potion known to man.
I feel like I've tried every shampoo in the world! (currently use Faith in Nature fragrance free shampoo)
I've taken part in research too.
I've also done various changes to my diet over the years - nothing has changed.

I've also had Psoriatic Arthritis for a good few years, and use crutches/walker/mobility scooter.

I've never had any improvement in my skin or joints no matter what I've tried and unfortunately my body seems to like to produce the rare side effects from any of the treatments - oh and then adds in another few allergies to boot

And if I hear one more time - it's stress that's causing it (from the public, not doctors) I will scream! And yes, I do realise that for some folk stress does make Psoriasis flare - but not for everyone!
Any seriously stressful events in my life have NEVER effected how my Psoriasis presents - My home being destroyed, serious mental health struggles with my then teenage Son and my Dad dying due to Covid.

I don’t think it’s “stress”. It’s the impact that has as part of everything else with the immune system. I haven’t noticed big changes with diet but I haven’t tried anything radical. I got it all over my forehead all of a sudden during uni finals and other times when I’ve had a virus, I’ve suddenly had little spots all over my back with turned out to be psoriasis. It massively improved during my first pregnancy, presumably due to my immune system being suppressed. DD has had it for a few months now - mid teens, had acne and greasy hair then that cleared up, she was under exam stress and suddenly psoriasis appeared. Am going to try stripping out carbs and taking zinc, magnesium and vit D for the next 3 weeks.

I’ve only had psoriasis for 2 years but my legs and feet are smothered in huge plaques. I’ve recently finished an 8 week course of dovobet which helped clear the plaques (not the red patches) but as soon as I stopped using it, they came back with a vengeance. GP reluctant to prescribe more steroids so I’m stuck with relentless itching and it’s so painful to walk.

You need a different gp and a dermatologist I use steroids every day and have for many years.

I have an appointment with a different GP tomorrow - any recommendations on what to ask for? I’ve tried betnovate and dovobet already

Ask for a referral to dermatology. They will write you up a good treatment regime. You need different things for different body parts and a stepdown/break plan.

Wanomoto · 21/06/2023 13:28

Yes psoriasis is shit. It is worse than anything. Its like a slow poison eating away at your life, constantly pissing you off in the background but strong enough to keep your mind off the more important things in life

and then u get pissed and all jumpy, but people keep telling you to be patient like as if being patient can heal my skin. FUCK guys im a patient of this for as long as i can remember so just fuck off.

however. I will be on biologics soon. I heard it works wonders. Adalimumab. For some reason its cheaper now due to some patent thingy, but ill give it a shot.

Pootle40 · 21/06/2023 13:45

Had it 30 years. I bought my own UVB bed in the end rather than wait to be referred to the hospital every year.

CoalCraft · 21/06/2023 13:48

The only thing that helped my grandmother with it is light therapy, but when she moved her new hospital wouldn't offer it :(

She wears a wig these days.

GimmeSleep · 21/06/2023 13:51

I'm not sure it would work on the scalp, but I did find Charity Pot from Lush helped my psoriasis (caveat mine is quite mild though)

but yes definitely fuck psoriasis and eczema!

sausage767 · 21/06/2023 13:58

I sympathise with the psoriasis and eczema sufferers. I have a condition called Darier’s Disease. There’s no real effective treatment.

Sickandtiredofbeingsick · 21/06/2023 14:37

Fellow psoriasis sufferer here 🙋🏻‍♀️ It’s an awful club to be a member of, especially during the summer months when you want to wear clothes that expose more of your body but you’re in the midst of a flare and feel too self conscious 😩 My skin has become my achilles heel over the past few years, I developed acne (thankfully now under control from using Skin & Me, good old tretinoin!), then psoriasis and now I am dealing with a problem around my neck that is yet to be diagnosed 🙄

I’ve found that whenever I shower in soft water areas, my psoriasis clears up amazingly fast! Unfortunately for me though I live in a very hard water area 😬 I discovered ‘Hello Klean’ and their hard water filters, body washes and shampoo and conditioner but they don’t come anywhere close to emulating soft water. I’ve tried UVB/A light treatment and whilst it did help, it didn’t clear it by the end of the 10 week course and as soon as I stopped, it just came right back. I’ve tried lots of different probiotics/prebiotics (including Hanna Sillitoe’s), high dose vitamin D, supplements, diet etc. and nothing seems to work long term. Fasting and losing weight helped reduce the area’s that I get it, I now mainly suffer with it just on my arms and scalp (but a flare up will cause it to appear in other places, just not as bad as before the weight loss). The sun helps to a degree but not always. Stress is a massive factor in my psoriasis but I find it really hard to regulate it (despite counselling and CBT therapy).

Every day I have to vacuum my bed sheets and my showering routine is ridiculous, owing to the amount of products I have to use on my skin and scalp and the time it takes to wash them off 😣 No 5 minute water saving showers for me, as much as I’d love to be as quick as that! I now just rely on a good, thick moisturiser/emollient and Dovobet or Enstillar and Betacap for my scalp and wearing long sleeve tops throughout the summer 😩

Good luck x I've just been on it for 3 months and my psoriasis (70+% coverage before) is almost clear for the first time in 61yrs. Amazing stuff so hope it works for you. I've only come off it because it's not doing as well as it could with arthritis so switching to a new one in a week or so.

Takeitonthechin · 22/06/2023 10:26

Please check out Hanna Sillitoe on instagram and Facebook.

Get in touch with her, she was covered in it herself and healed herself.

Cut out sugar ( including sweetners), gluten , dairy & nightshades ( white potato, peppers, chilli, tomatoes.... google nightshades if you aren't aware of what they are).

Sweet potato is fine.

If you try and cut out processed food and go back to basics. I only have the above 'banned' foods, once in a blue moon, if I'm eating out, or at a friends for Dinner, but Gluten is a big trigger for me, it makes me ache & sugar makes me itch.

Hope you check her out as her posts really helped me. You may have to scroll right the way back through them to find how she healed herself.

Have any of you looked into swimming in the Dead Sea. There are many testimonials about people hugely benefiting from it and in some cases dow the conditions to go away and never return.
