Watching the football games...

We are a big football family all go to out local team and are enjoying the world cup. My DH likes to watch the England games just at home me, him and 2 DCs. I however like to get together with family and watch all together. I have compromised on all the games so far even though my family have been all watching together.
He has basically said he isn't bothered if I go and watch elsewhere but wouldn't want the kids to go.
I'm torn as my daughter would defo want to go with me (she loves spending time with family). It will be a big row and will also split DCs up if I did decide to go. Guess it's AIBU to expect him to come along and compromise?

Oh come on OP

Just go with the flow. Why force him? And a “big toe”? Let me guess… your marriage isn’t in the best place even when you put this issue aside?

“Big toe” 😂

big row

Feef83 · 29/11/2022 16:08

And whose family are you talking about? Yours presumably?

Your family
You Go

seriously

Let him watch it at home if that’s what he wants. You go out to watch it if you want to.

Is there someone in this family group who doesn’t have an interest in football and will just yap all the way through it? I’d give that a miss too. I recall watching rugby in a group with a woman who didn’t even know who was playing and was trying to show us photos of her house renovation on her phone.

How is that a compromise?

MolesOnPoles · 29/11/2022 16:48

Whoever wants to go to your family can do so, whoever wants to stay can do so. No issue at all if the kids choose to split up.

Why would it cause a row?

Thanks all. I just went with what he wanted this time to keep the peace. However its cropped up again today for plans for the next match, I want to go to my brothers and give the kids the choice if they come or stay at home (they are 7 and 8). He was so angry at me and swore at me and threw a chair, not at me but it was pretty scary.
Or marriage is rock bottom ATM
