Dentist wants me to have my wisdom tooth out, but I don't want to - AIBU?

My wisdom tooth has grown in at an angle, such that it presses against my molar. It never caused me any pain, it grew in around 10 years ago for context, so my previous dentist said it was fine.

I went to a new dentist who did an x-ray which showed the wisdom tooth had damaged the molar and required a root canal. I had the root canal done, qhich required my dentist to cut away/file away some of my wisdom tooth to be able to get to the molar properly. So now my wisdom tooth doesn't touch my molar.

I've been referred to a dental hospital to have it removed, but I'm feeling really anxious about it. I'm wondering if because the tooth is no longer touching the molar it can stay in place? I'm really good with my dental hygiene, I floss everyday and make a point to keep that wisdom tooth really clean.

WIBU to say I don't want it removed?

I have just had a wisdom tooth removed on Friday, I was honestly so scared I was shaking like a leaf and sweating bullets lying on the dentist chair. I didn't feel anything other than slight tugging, it was over in 30 seconds and I've had absolutely no pain during the healing process, I haven't needed any pain relief at all and have been able to eat and drink as normal x I regret not doing it sooner

Its your mouth and you don't have to agree to anything you don't want!

I have had wisdom teeth out because they were hurting me. Its an absolute bastard of an operation and I wouldn't do it if I wasn't in pain.

I've had mine out in hospital they put you out it was fine.

Two weeks for everyone? My colleague was back the day after an extraction under GA, not a wisdom tooth though.

They offered a fit note for one week as standard but it took me longer than that to recover (possibly because of how hard they were to remove and my wounds taking a long time to start healing).

I was back the day after too.

I had both the bottom wisdom teeth out under waking sedation and local anaesthetic. I had one day off (Monday, the extraction was on the Friday)to recover and just had to eat soft food for a while. It wasn’t the nicest weekend but the benefit down the road was worth it and the sedation is bloody ace! They could have done anything they liked and I wouldn’t have given the slightest tiny shit!

Really? I had incisions, my bone chipped, one tooth broke, stitches and I felt one of the stitches go in as the numbing was wearing off. I still only took the weekend plus 1 day. I even got an infection the following week but still continued at work, just took antibiotics as prescribed and otc painkillers.

@hatethedentist I had my wisdom tooth out at the dental hospital without sedation because it was £100 extra and I didn't want to pay it. I couldn't have gone straight back to work, sorry to say. I definitely had to have the rest of the afternoon off as I was quite tired but I was ok the next day. Hopefully yours will be easier x

I had 3 removed at once and took a couple of days off work. It was such a relief to not have a wisdom related problem again, best to get it out of the way.
