Christmas lights. Am I being a Scrooge?

It's possible that I am. I'm in a panic about money at the moment, made all the worse because I'm on annual leave so I've got time to shit myself and hyperventilate worry about it.

I love Christmas and I love Christmas lights.

But this post in the Argus seems a bit off, given that we have real issues with energy at the moment?
I think I read that it's for charity but I'm not sure that's the best excuse way to be making money for charity at the moment.

YABU. It's cheerful and not everything has to be bleak. For those saying it's tacky would it be better if they were all white lights, would that make it tasteful?! Each to their own. When I drive past these houses it makes me smile, and I think that's their intention.

You keep on aggressively demanding to know if posters have read the news.

If you yourself are feeling anxious about the news you need to recognize that and deal with your own feelings. It's not the job of the rest of society to manage your anxiety for you.

People have lights up for Christmas. Deal with it.

There's always been bad news. Currently there are famines, big chunks of North and West Africa are under the control of Islamic militias, millions of people displaced by war and climate change, there are diphtheria outbreaks in migrant holding tanks in Kent, raw sewage pumped into the sea, hundreds of thousands of Phillipino children are being used as online sex slaves of western men this very minute...

All the average person can do is hope justice and righteousness will one day prevail. Curling up in fetal position on the floor and having your life and the lives of others grind to a screeching halt out of concern for it all isn't an option.
