I have a 5 year old DD. She is very social, bubbly, loves learning and so on, so a pretty normal/average child. Was quite an early talker, hit all the milestone on time, there were no worries there.
However, since the age or about 2.5 she started displaying some odd behaviours like rocking back and forth when she is excited (watching TV for instance) coupled with very fast hand/arm flapping. When I distract her from this action she stops, looks at me and smiles or laughs.
Also she jumps, A LOT! When we are out and she talks to her friends or adults or whatever she jumps, she talks and jumps and laughs. Now, the kids don't really notice, most of the time they start jumping too and laughing, but the adults are making comments like: oh, she jumps a lot!
Plus she does this at school. There was one instance (teddy bear's picnic) where the teacher was reading a story and all kids were sitting down and listening (DD too) then she started rocking back and forth and flapping her hands and really stood out! This lasted for about a minute. During these episodes she also crosses her eyes and her mouth goes into a o shape. Very odd. So she has these episodes at random times of the day and I'm worried she'll started getting picked on when she is older.
I was hoping she'll grow out of it, but doesn't seem to go away.
School, nurseries have never brought this up to me, but I'm sure they've seen it, it's very obvious. Because she is otherwise a very 'normal' child, I guess they have no concerns.
AIBU to think that this is very odd and I need to speak to a specialist? Her dad thinks this makes her cute and she's just excited.
