Dd, 4 has had a temperature of 39 today, now down to 37, no other symptoms aside from being tired and lying down all day.
I’m lay with her in bed and she’s been falling asleep then waking up screaming, she sounds terrified, I held her straight away and put the light on and she was ducking away from the ceiling, screaming that there was something on it, Dh came up and we’ve been holding her and reassuring her have given her some medicine to hopefully help? 🤷🏻‍♀️It’s happened twice tonight (never before)
When we lay her back down in between us, she was sort of twitching a bit, we’re not sure if involuntary of if she’s seeing things again.
shes calmed a little now, do we take her to hospital or does this sometimes happen? Really worrying to see her so scared 😔

Defo get her checked out op

Daffodilsandtuplips · 28/11/2022 23:27

I’d take her to be checked out at hospital.

MrsMorrisey · 28/11/2022 23:30

It's probably febrile convulsions.
Common when children's temperature gets too high.
Keep her cool and try to lower her temp.
My kids had them when young.

nocoolnamesleft · 28/11/2022 23:30

Doing that whilst actually not currently that hot needs checking out.

Alexandernevermind · 28/11/2022 23:32

Febrile convulsions caused by a dangerously high temperature. Get her to hospital immediately. Check for the pin prick rash and do the glass test. Don't mess with this op.

Whateverusername · 28/11/2022 23:33

@nocoolnamesleft Her skin is really hot but thermometer showing just over 37 now, was 39 this morning, she’s still hot to the touch and tired. She’s sleeping now

@Alexandernevermind Her temp is 37 now and she’s just fallen asleep after medicine, waiting for Dh to come back from the neighbour Dr

That's good. Have you checked for rashes?

What sort of thermometer are you using? The ear ones are not as accurate as the oral ones.

nocoolnamesleft · 28/11/2022 23:45

It may well just be that her temp is about to go back up again, but you shouldn't rely on that. It would be safer to get her checked out. And yes, she may have perked up by the time you get to the hospital...but she might not.

SeenAndNot · 28/11/2022 23:47

Get her to A&E or 111. your doctor friend next door won’t be able to treat her beyond assessment.

Adventureoflife · 28/11/2022 23:56

Lay off the medication for the sole purpose of reducing the temperature, should be left to run its course.

The quicker the change in body temperature the more likely a convulsion is to happen.

Whateverusername · 28/11/2022 23:56

@Alexandernevermind No rashes, she’s cooled down-maybe the medicine, skin not hot to the touch now, just slightly clammy and cooler? Dr says likely fever dreams/night terrors as her temp not high now and to let her rest, but if any further issues to come to him or ambulance down the road/local hospital.
I’m also starting to get hot now and feel like I’m coming down with it more, I slept with her on and off today too
Just scary seeing her in that half asleep/awake phase and saying there was something on the walls 😔

I’m glad a doctor saw her. Best to have a professionals advice and not armchair doctors on here.

Hope you don’t get too ill OP. Dose yourself up too x

^^ not aimed at anyone on this thread

Themind · 29/11/2022 02:33

It is really worrying when people start asking internet forums full of strangers who can't see whatever thr problem is and most of whom have no medical knowledge other than the directions on the back of a calpol bottle ( I include myself in this) what they should do. I say he same things every time in these threads.
Look at your child and get medical attention if you need to don't rely on the internet. I hope she is okay OP.
