Yesterday diving through town and myself and partner noticed a man in a wheelchair in the middle of the road going against the traffic and a man on a bike trying to squeeze between the man in a wheelchair and the curb. All the time cars are going passed him even waiting to go around him.

My partner got out of the car and helped him get back on to the pavement while i turned the car around. The man was in his mid 80s and found out he had his leg amputated 3 weeks ago and this was his 3rd trip out to the supermarket alone since it happened. He said 6 people had just walked past him not bothering to help and a lot more on the other side of the road. He said his shopping bags had broken which left him unable to try and mount the curb again, this was about 5pm so really dark by this point and could have been easily run over as no lights etc on his chair.

Partner then found out he lived in the town centre so took him home as he was freezing (partner said inanimate object cold). The wheelchair man was so thankful he was offering to buy partner a drink in the pub or some food.

AIBU to think that someone could have helped him at least get back on the pavement so disappointed in people.

I don't think you were fishing for praise op, some people are just wankers and assume the worst of people. I don't know why more people don't look put for others but a PP probably has the right of it, that mostly others are too self absorbed and don't see what benefit they would get out of helping. I'm quite annoyed that the poor man you assisted has been left to fend for himself, he should have had a care plan in place before leaving hospital. Its a shocking situation

Yes, I agree he should never have been left alone without a care plan, he told partner that his neighbour had to phone the ambulance for him as he had gangrene which caused the amputation so don't sound like he has family. But is this what we can expect as we age and to be seen as the "norm" like a PP said it's been happening for years, but I do think it's easier to pretend to ignore things now as people are always looking at their phones.
