For a week I've had a blocked nose, coughing, producing literally buckets of dark green khaki mucus that is lumpy, thick, sticky generally yuck.

Doesn't seem to be getting better. Had one day improvement then back to no improvement.

Now feeling light headed/ dizzy.

Ulcers on roof of mouth from mouth breathing due to snot build up.

I'm super run down.

Do I need antibiotics or should I put up with it for longer, I feel awful. I've had antibiotics for chest infections before this time I've not sought any medical help as of yet?

I've had it along with many others. It lasts 3 weeks. Personally I wouldn't bother

I'd be insisting on talking to a Dr. Sounds like you need antibiotics.

You don't need to speak to a doctor for antibiotics. That's exactly the job of the advanced nurse practitioner

Infernalhellloop · 27/11/2022 17:16

@RuthW I think people are just being generic.... I certainly am...I don't care when I go to the gp who I see as long as they have prescription abilities if required

Sounds like a normal cold to me. I’d have a lemsip and get on with it. And I’m immune suppressed.

passmethemalbec · 27/11/2022 17:20

Definitely call GP

ifonly4 · 27/11/2022 17:27

It sounds like a bad cold, combined with being run down. Not sure what doctor can do about it. However, if you're struggling to take a normal breath into your lungs or have pain in them, then that's something I wouldn't ignore.

If you're really rough, I assume you haven't been to work. If that's the case, might be worth checking if the doctor needs to sign you off. If so, you might be able to get a telephone appointment as that's something that the doctor would have to authorise.

Tistheseason17 · 27/11/2022 17:31

Still not called the non emergency healthcare advice service 111? There is even a 111 symptom checker with advice...

Booklover3 · 28/11/2022 00:22

Did you see someone OP? Feeling any better?

Ellessdee · 28/11/2022 00:36

Sounds like a cold.... No way I'd go to GP for this!

TheFunnyOne · 28/11/2022 02:47

My husband is currently on his second lot of antibiotics for his chest infection and his symptoms sound similar to yours. He’s been referred for an x-ray as the GP is worried it may be pneumonia 😢 Definitely fight on the phone. Hope you get it sorted 🤞

Infernalhellloop · 28/11/2022 12:27

@TheFunnyOne oh no, hope he gets better soon 😔

@Booklover3 yes, they heard crackling low down and have given me antibiotics and told me to stay off work until better.

Colds can take weeks to go. There is one doing the rounds. You don't need antibiotics

Infernalhellloop · 28/11/2022 16:02

Thanks for your medical opinion @niccyb I'll make sure to consult you first next time FFS 🤣

Not always true.

I've had the cold. It has now turned into a chest infection and I absolutely need the antibiotics I've been given.

Infernalhellloop · 28/11/2022 17:09

@QuestionableMouse exactly Flowers thank you. Same here, haven't felt this unwell for years.

People with a reason to be cautious

I'm going on three weeks of it now. Totally and utterly fed up! Tested for Covid again, still negative.

Or its viral which is why abiotics don't work. Viral bronchitis can take weeks to settle.
Antibiotics aren't magic and don't treat viruses.

You'd think the GP who saw him in person would be better able to treat and diagnose him better than a randomor on an Internet forum.

While you're making magical diagnoses, can you tell me what's wrong with my big toe?

geraniumsandsunshine · 30/11/2022 18:30

It's only been a week. You need rest, fluid and paracetamol. If it hadn't improved after 14 days then you can call.

Kindofcrunchy · 30/11/2022 18:35

And this is why no one who is actually ill can get a gp appointment ffs.
