Children (age 7+) and adults, fun and not too complicated, what are your favourites?

Forbidden Island
Quacks of Quedlinburg

And, yes, YABU when there are several other threads asking the same thing! 😜

Uno
Labyrinth

HowCanIPayItForward · 27/11/2022 12:50

For really quick silly fun, Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza.

If you don't mind a LOT of toilet humour, Kids Against Maturity.

For a more classic family/party type game - Articulate for Kids (works fine for both adults and kids in my opinion)

Or to start to introduce strategy, Carcasonne is great. Basic rules are fairly simple (mine were playing from 5/6) but as you get the hang of it you can add extra complexity or buy expansion packs.

Favourites in our house are..
Labyrinth
Qwirkle
Cluedo
Monopoly voice banking (it is MUCH shorter than the original)

But the winner has to be Dobble. It's a card game rather than a board game - but it is really quick to pick up and gets competitive in our house.

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 27/11/2022 12:54

Dobble (card game)

Funnyfive · 27/11/2022 12:56

Blokus - great game for all ages!

bringmelaughter · 27/11/2022 13:03

Saboteur (and the extension pack) is brilliant and because it’s cards it’s very transportable too.

PhotoDad · 27/11/2022 13:05

Lots of great suggestions here! The big factor (as I've said on previous threads...) is how long you want the game to last; 5 minutes? 30? 60? You'll get very different lists depending on that. Whatever you pick, I hope you enjoy it; boardgaming is for life, not just for Christmas!

Claudia84 · 27/11/2022 13:07

Labyrinth is good
Exploding kittens - it's a bit like uno but they'll find the cards funnier.
We love dobble in our house but if you have competitive adults the children may not get a look in..

At age 7 I was playing monopoly. My parents would give the children the role of banker to help with our maths. I eye roll about it now but they were probably on to something.

Sandysandwich · 27/11/2022 13:20

We prefer 'party style' games rather than proper board games because for us they are more fun
Things like telestrations and lots of the Big Potato Games like chameleon, something fishy, obama llama, herd mentality etc

PlentyO · 27/11/2022 13:24

Ticket to Ride, Labyrinth, Cluedo

Shoreditchintheafternoon · 27/11/2022 13:29

Ticket to ride
Carcassonne

honestogod · 27/11/2022 13:31

Sushi Go is great!

ReadtheReviews · 27/11/2022 13:34

Muddles (card game)
Some.vintage ones: Bird in the Hand (simple)
Buccaneer (still quite easy but more layers)

random223 · 27/11/2022 14:03

Carcassonne
Settlers of Catan (7 may be a bit young)
Boggle
Dobble
The Bean Game
Port Royal
Exploding Kittens
Ghost Blitz

Thank you - I think I might try Articulate for Kids, although I'm an adult :)

I remember there being quite a few cards in the original that I found too difficult because I didn't know who they were!

mamabear715 · 27/11/2022 14:52

Frustration.. I have a very low boredom threshold! :-)

DilemmaDelilah · 27/11/2022 15:07

Articulate is the only game we can play with the children without anyone getting upset!

donttellmehesalive · 27/11/2022 15:40

Headbanz is fun

pastypirate · 27/11/2022 15:51

Labyrinth it's brilliant!

Raveon2000 · 27/11/2022 20:34
