Being a relative newbie on here, I am loving the anecdotes and the MN specific turn of phrase.
Classic examples being - Ltb, “it’s an invitation, not a summons”, CF-ery.

Also love the dedication of some for keeping a chat going whilst watching TV shows, which have quite a few very funny posters.
I’ve also noticed the genuine kindness and support (to what are effectively, virtual strangers on the internet) when the need arises.

Can any of the long serving MNetters share any more of the gems I’ve yet to come across, or links to some must read threads?

What keeps you on MN?
Has anyone made friends from this forum?
Bought anything purely on the recommendation of fellow MNetters?
( I have!)

Not really sure of the purpose of this thread, just wanted to says thanks for the laughs and insight I suppose!

Bought Babylis Big Hair, too many retinol products to mention.

Gained clarity on my dh’s behaviour and that I can be a princess too.

Frightened myself with spooky threads.

Laughed a lot. Felt like I have contributed. Learnt a lot about the camaraderie of women.

I've learnt a lot especially from those who know their politics and not to be so judgy as well
The threads that show statistics are the best.

CuriousMama · 27/11/2022 08:51

I've learned I can be a tit sometimes 🙈

Also supported plenty and received support. I wish I'd been on MN when ds1 was a baby.

DH has even asked me what does MN say about stuff 🤣

Just wish there weren't lazy journalists and trolls but can't have everything.

felulageller · 27/11/2022 08:52

If you haven't read the penis beaker thread in classics please do.

I've seen a few of your posts lately mainly jungle Fred. How old were you in the 80s? I left school in 84'. Love the music even now.

Have a look in Classics Op, there are some cracking threads in there to keep you entertained for hours!

LauderSyme · 27/11/2022 09:18

I agree OP, Mumsnet is invaluable. The wisdom and support to be found here is amazing. Some of the threads have made me laugh more than almost anything else ever in my life. (I think that's something to do with the cumulative comic effect of each contribution to the thread).

Find "MN classics". I sometimes go there just to cheer myself up!

I became a Mumsnetter when I was pregnant, DS is teenaged now. I am much more of a drop-inner and -outer these days and perhaps have become blase and take MN for granted. But when I first came here I felt much as you do and was very grateful. This community of (largely) women has enriched my life immensely.

readingismycardio · 27/11/2022 09:32

I love mumsnet. I learned a lot of new things (including s&b), and most important, I had support and nice people when I miscarried a few weeks ago. Flowers

WeeOrcadian · 27/11/2022 09:33

I absolutely adore when a thread rallies around a poster who genuinely needs support / a hand hold / an answer or just someone acknowledging them, it brings me to tears more times than I care to admit.

It can be a pit of vipers but the most homely place in my phone, with your brethren, all within the space of two threads.

the80sweregreat · 27/11/2022 09:38

I was a teen in the 80s !
Long time ago now
Love the music , but I also like new artists as well.

the80sweregreat · 27/11/2022 09:39

Like others, I wished that MN was about when my children were little too
It's a great forum for debate and help for people too.

AntonDuPig · 27/11/2022 10:36

@readingismycardio I’m so sorry to hear about your miscarriage. How are you doing? X

@WeeOrcadian Yes! I often get a bit of dust in my eyes too on those threads.
You have just added to my list - “a pit of vipers” 😂

Thank you for the Classics recommendation. I will be spending a large part of my afternoon on there later methinks! I’m just having a quick read on break at work.

I recognise CuriousMama and 80s from the TV shows posts.
Also a teenager in the 80s!

Funny thing is I got sucked into MN for the puppy advice, not babies 🙈
My youngest DC is 9 and yes I wished I had discovered this site a long long time ago. The advice, support and just general chat and banter would have been invaluable indeed!

Thanks to you all for your input

I've learnt loads, but most recently how good I have it.

Lovely thread OP

Ragingoverlife · 27/11/2022 10:46

Love hate relationship with MN.have left and come back, I've had to request todelete posts because I couldn't deal with the unneeded stress from them!

Some threads seem to attract heartless people. Others I see the most caring wonderful advice and think if that was put on a different thread she would receive a totally different answer.

Mumsnet classics - you literally never realise how good a simple thread can be! Funny, emotive, heartwarming

I was Just about to say this. I'm pretty sure this thread was the reason I joined mumsnet.

WifeMotherWorker · 27/11/2022 10:51

I love the female solidarity and support on MN. There are so many posts where women are overwhelmed with parenthood, there are lost souls due to abusive relationships (financial, physical, psychological) or women that just need support or clarity on a situation. It’s these posts where MN shines as the advice is incredible and invaluable to not just the OP but the hundreds of other women reading a post that are in similar situations who can also benefit from the guidance.
There are some posts and posters that are rude, tone-deaf, argumentative and just a bit provocative. I tend to scroll past these, although some are just soooooo entertaining….
OP am I being unreasonable?
MN YES YABVVVU!
OP no I’m not!!!
MN isn’t perfect but I think it is a fantastic network and a good community for women. That’s what keeps me here.

I've just finished watching the jungle and watching strictly results now.

I agree. I posted recently when having a hard time in hospital with DC3, late night/ early hours of the morning and people were really lovely and it made a huge difference to how I was feeling.
