To keep waiting for the ambulance?

Panickstop · 27/11/2022 06:10

Or just take him there myself.

Been waiting 40 minutes. I think 111 suspect heart. Crushing upper stomach pain every few minutes and being sick (he's never sick)

Hospital is 20 minutes away by car.

Conkersareback · 27/11/2022 06:17

All in the OP!

Oh my days, what a dilemma! Is it your OH? How old is he? I think I would probably take him myself to be honest, but that’s only because I know in my area even the most urgent ambo calls are taken over an hour to arrive.

KangarooKenny · 27/11/2022 06:19

I’d go in the car.

Hollyhead · 27/11/2022 06:19

@Conkersareback @Panickstop my god yes sorry, Proper brain fart moment there, I’ve never done that before!

lightlypoached · 27/11/2022 06:19

If it was me I'd say safer to wait as they have the equipment and expertise on board to deal with all manner of scenarios and you will likely get seen sooner at hospital.

Call back 999 if the symptoms are worsening or it's taking longer than you feel comfortable with. They can (and will change priority if symptoms dictate it).

I don't want to alarm you further but do you know how to do CPR and where the nearest defibrillator can be found? Some helpful links below.

Stay calm, breathe. Get things ready to go to hospital: bottle of water for you, charger, wallet, comfy clothes, toothbrush/paste (to freshen up if you have to wait ages), snack (for you not the patient).

www.nhs.uk/conditions/first-aid/cpr/

www.lifesavingtraining.co.uk/nearest-defibrillator-aed/

Keeping everything crossed that you are seen soon and that all is well.

Hollyhead · 27/11/2022 06:20

I think I’d take him in the car, let 111 know what you’re doing.

Panickstop · 27/11/2022 06:20

He's 57. Had the pain for about 4 hours but only woke me at 4.30.

We have two autistic teenagers. He's very reluctant to leave them.

Should I call 999 again or is it just wasting their time?

Yes drive there. Roads should be pretty quiet this early

billysboy · 27/11/2022 06:21

Get on car and go

tackling · 27/11/2022 06:22

I don't know if it's the correct thing to do or not but I'd be driving my husband over as fast as possible.

HalfasleepChrisintheMorning · 27/11/2022 06:23

If you have any aspirin get him to chew one 300mg ideally.
Ring a neighbour to fetch a defibrillator.
Ring 999 again and tell them it’s a heart attack. They usually stay on the line with you while the ambulance arrives in these circumstances.
Thinking of you and your DH

KangarooKenny · 27/11/2022 06:23

Just go. Far more disruptive for the kids to have an ambulance arrive.

whataballbag · 27/11/2022 06:24

If you are self conveying please call back 999 and let them know - they may already be en route and end up turning up to an empty house.

Nursemumma92 · 27/11/2022 06:40

I would make your own way there but phone 999 back to let them know as they could be en route to you. Unfortunately ambulance waits are shocking at the moment with the delays offloading patients at hospital. If he deteriorates en route call them straight back. Hope he's ok and gets the treatment he needs x

Pepperama · 27/11/2022 06:46

I’d take him but let ambulance service know (ring 999) so they don’t waste time

90yomakeuproom · 27/11/2022 06:50

Take him yourself. You may be waiting hours yet.

My dad had similar symptoms last year, he was sweating buckets, couldn't get up, being sick, stomach pains and an ambulance came within half an hour, we were pretty lucky. It ended up being pancreatitis.

Dinosaurpoopy · 27/11/2022 06:51

Take him yourself, it could be hours yet
