When I saw the headline I was shocked someone would pay that much for a couple of bags of sweets even at a place like winter wonderland, which like tourist traps and a lot of attractions are going to be very expensive.

However on reading the story the company isn't wrong in saying that the price per 100g was displayed, as well as a weighing scale being available, plus the mum let her child start eating the sweets before they had fully paid so couldn't put them back?

I don't think the stall has really done anything wrong? Apart from it being very expensive, but then that's why I don't buy stuff from these sorts of places.

that’s ridiculously expensive (shockingly so!) but you’re right, it’s her fault for not checking and letting them eat them before she’d paid. How stupid

Mumjugglingkidsandteaching · 26/11/2022 20:41

That's a lot of f*ING Flumps

MichelleScarn · 26/11/2022 20:41

How much sweets did she get and what was the price per 100g?!

CasperGutman · 26/11/2022 20:42

It's expensive, but who lets their children get 1.6kg of pick and mix - that's more than three big bags of sugar!

It's all in the article.

angelikacpickles · 26/11/2022 20:43

She let each child get nearly a kilogram of sweets and was then surprised that it was expensive?

Sprouttreesareamazing · 26/11/2022 20:43

Dd once got some fudge at a County fair thing. She had £2. She got 3 bits of fudge! She even made me take a photo!!

unvillage · 26/11/2022 20:44

She bought 1.6KG of sweets! Sure, no one knows what 100g looks like, but you know the difference between that an a kilogram, surely?

FixTheBone · 26/11/2022 20:44

'Nobody knows what 100g looks like'

'we didn't let them go overboard...'

1.6 kilos of pick'n'mix later.....

LittleBearPad · 26/11/2022 20:44

1.6kg of sweets!

Thats a hell of a lot if sweets!

XenoBitch · 26/11/2022 20:44

Not much of a headline when it was a simple failure on the part of the mum to do the maths.

Keyansier · 26/11/2022 20:45

You can't "accidentally" buy £47 worth of sweets in one go. Maybe her kids are naturally greedy and eat a lot of sweets anyway seeing as the story specifically mentioned they were demanding them and then started eating them even before they had been paid for?

MetellaInHortoEst · 26/11/2022 20:45

Ridiculousness all round.

Those are rip off prices.

OTOH, why go to those tacky things in the first place? Why buy sweets there? Why not check the prices and use the scales? Why let the kids pick such big bags? Why let the children eat something they haven’t paid for? (That last one is very basic - if you haven’t paid it’s not yours yet.)

monsteronahill · 26/11/2022 20:46

The markets in Manchester are similar prices - so blasted expensive!! 1.6kg is a lot though 😂 but in Manchester I've seen the guys on the stall holding the bags and adding sweets, rather than you having it in your hand so you can guesstimate the weight!

OnTheBoardwalk · 26/11/2022 20:47

Yeah how many long gummy worms are in there! They are about a fiver each at pick and mix

onepieceoflollipop · 26/11/2022 20:48

The sweets are expensive.

but I am surprised at the comment no one knows what 100g looks like.

SlagathaChristie · 26/11/2022 20:49

MichelleScarn · 26/11/2022 20:41

How much sweets did she get and what was the price per 100g?!

£2.79 per 100g, so they got nearly 1.7kg or 3.75lb of fudge. An absolute fuckton of fudge, which they then got refunded on because they kicked up a stink.

Fwiw, that isn't that high a price for fudge if it's good quality (or at an expensive event...)

Sparklesocks · 26/11/2022 20:49

I dont deny those stalls are a rip off but 1.6kg of sweets isn’t exactly a couple of gummy worms and a few shrimps!

piedbeauty · 26/11/2022 20:49

Pathetic. 1.6kg of sweets???! 😱😱 the mum needs to woman up and start parenting. And counting. Greedy kids.

Danni675 · 26/11/2022 20:49

Total non-story- I feel sorry for the business. They’ve illustrated the story with a picture of bog standard pick and mix but the company does pick and mix handmade fudge- that’s obviously an expensive product. The price seems perfectly reasonable.

sunnydaytoday0 · 26/11/2022 20:51

Why not check the prices and use the scales?

The one point the mum made which I guess wasn't unreasonable (if true) was that she said it appeared there was only one scale. At least if there's a few dotted around then people won't have to queue every time you wanted to check the price before adding more/taking some out.

So they allowed the children to start eating it before it had even been weighed? What if they'd scoffed 10 pieces by then for free?!

I think it means the bags were weighed and the children tucked in before the dad had paid.

I couldn't believe reading that she'd got 1.6kg of sweets! If you know the cost per 100g then you just ask for 200g or whatever. Or you think, "right, that's five bits, that's possibly around 100g, let's check" (depending how big the bits were).

There's a Tesco and Sainsbury's (and M&S etc ) all walking distance away. That said... That's some pricy sweets.

But i'm nothing this for when we inevitably get dragged around by the small one. Going to get some 55p Tesco steawbuey straws to distract him!

LadyKenya · 26/11/2022 20:56

Well the mother has been offered a full refund, and more than likely got paid for her little story, and the company has had a load of publicity. Win, win some may say.
