"Just teasing"

A colleague who I considered a friend at work made a joke purely at my expensive at work today...in front of other colleagues.
She also made some sort of mocking at something if shared with her recently...
Nothing personal but it felt that way.
I was quite taken a back. One colleague giggled, the others kind of out of earshot..but still.
I asked what she meant and she just replied "I'm just teasing"...
I carried on until I finished my shift but could feel myself tearing up, but didn't.

I don't know if I want to tell this "friend" much anymore or share small things with.
I just feel a bit like it made me feel silly and why would you do that to someone.

It was about an email I had sent to her which she snarkly replied what was it, me doing something wonderful...oh good for you and general snarky...and then onto how I do wonderful things with my family, mentioning something i only mentioned to her...and making fun of it.
I'm still really taken aback and angry that she did this.
I would never intentionally make fun of someone else.

She's a cunt, avoid her.

This is like that "just banter" excuse. "Just teasing" tends to mean "I know I was bullying you, I enjoyed it, I'm not going to admit it. Definitely stop telling this person anything personal, or indeed anything at all.

Or in Ireland sure we're only having the craic. No you're not, cunt.

meetmeinthespring · 27/11/2022 07:07

@BelgiumArse can't really do that as have to work with her.
anyone been through same thing?

Be super super pleasant and friendly, without ever telling her anything personal again.

She will be confused and you will have the power.

Well now you know what she is like. Unless you are a continual bragger and everyone is sick of hearing about your lovely life this seems uncalled for. This is the kind of thing you log in your mind and move on from but never share this kind of thing with again. The other side could be she is usually fine, got her tone and reaction wrong , you can say how you feel, she apologises and you all move on. Either of these scenarios seems to be a likely outcome.

I had something similar in work once: I thought someone in the office was pleasant (wouldn’t say we were friends but it was office friendly) and then they accidentally sent an email about me to me. It wasnt particularly personal, just moaning about something I had asked them to do…. But it still revealed a clique in the office I hadn’t been aware of and I counted myself lucky that I now knew about them! From that point I just avoided them unless I had to work with them directly… and I think my coolness was felt by them so they were always extra sickly nice after that. I never made a fuss of it but I still have no time for them now several years later.
