Posting patient details social media

Yorkshirelass8 · 25/11/2022 20:18

Someone I know who works in my local doctors surgery is an active social media user and has recently been posting selfies on her Story with her computer screen visible. When zoomed in you can clearly see patient details (such as full name, date of birth and nhs number). She’s done this on 4 separate occasions now and I’m seriously considering reporting her. Obviously stories delete after 24 hours, so I have no evidence.

She has never posted medical notes/history, just names, date of birth, nhs number and occasionally it shows who their usual gp is.

I know it sounds strange but I would feel so guilty if she was sacked because of me and I also wouldn’t want her knowing I was the one to report her.

However, it makes me extremely uncomfortable to see her do this time and time again.

Would I be unreasonable to report her?

Screenshot and report.

Keyansier · 25/11/2022 20:19

Report.

XanaduKira · 25/11/2022 20:19

I would screenshot it the next time she does it and report her. It would be sad if she lost her job but what she's doing is completely wrong.

qwerdi · 25/11/2022 20:19

Report report report. She deserves to get the sack for such a breach of confidentiality.
And what on earth is she doing posting when she should be working.

Stealthfart · 25/11/2022 20:20

Report. No question.

TalkisChips · 25/11/2022 20:20

Of course you should. This goes against every bit of information governance and confidentiality training she will have had.

catandcoffee · 25/11/2022 20:21

Is she aware you can see the details ?
Have you told her ?
If the answer is yes then I'd report her.

Whattodo182 · 25/11/2022 20:22

She deserves to lose her job. Screenshot and report. She will have signed a social media policy and undergone GDPR training which she clearly doesn't give two shits about.
Also they might be able to replace her with someone who answers the phone rather than taking selfies.

Norriscolesbag · 25/11/2022 20:23

Tell her before you report ffs

Yorkshirelass8 · 25/11/2022 20:24

I personally can’t see that she’s unaware she’s posting it for others to see, it’s pretty obvious by looking that details are visible.

Tell her. Maybe she's a bit dim and doesn't realise.

VladmirsPoutine · 25/11/2022 20:25

Screenshot and report. I don't understand the angst.

Why on earth should she?!

You can literally access anyone's nhs personal record online now with the information she's posting.

She doesn't deserve a heads up.

Fluffygoon · 25/11/2022 20:52

Can’t wrap my head round why anyone would be taking selfies at work with their computer screen on show 🤷‍♀️

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 25/11/2022 21:01

If you're worried about her seeing you've screenshot it then take a photo with someone else's phone. She needs to be reported.

Probably for "Bereal" where you're supposed to post photo of exactly where you are and what you're doing as soon as the daily notification goes off

Ahaha, I’ve learned something today- thank you!

RoyKeaneisRight · 26/11/2022 09:24

Yes, I would report her. Who knows what her screen could be showing next time, it's a complete data breach. If she is doing that BeReal thing she could easily take a photo of her keyboard, not a computer screen with patients details on it. Jeez, I weep for the stupidity of some people 🙄

tickticksnooze · 26/11/2022 09:26

I would have already reported her. Protecting the people she's harming is more important.

Devastatedyetagain · 26/11/2022 09:27

Report - this is a massive data protection breach. It is irrelevant whether she is aware of not - she should have received data protection training.

HiDeDi · 26/11/2022 09:28

Why don’t you just tell her? Then she can stop.
